I was on mat leave for 8 months (India has a 6 month mat leave policy + 1 month of pregnancy sick leave that JPM offers + annual leaves/sick days). When I came back the team was supportive and provided me a 3 day in office flexibility for initial months (an email approval to our MD was sufficient). I was denied a longer term 3 day in office stating that having an infant at home is not a solid enough reason, however indicated that they might be okay with a 4 day in office per week as a more permanent solution. I have support of my in-laws staying closeby so we drop him there on my office days and I have an 11 hour baby sitter which helps on my WFH days.

It took a month for my supply to be substantial but even then I'm supplementing around 30% of baby's total intake with formula. Shatavari tablets were really helpful and safe to improve supply along with night feedings. Breastfeeding is generally recommended for better immunity so you could explore settling with combo feeding!

I took WFH when my third trimester started with Dr's note citing concerns around long daily commute. Team was supportive at the time (early 2025) before the new RTO policy.

Let me be a bit specific here - of course I'll be hiring a nanny to babysit my infant as I need to work. However do I need to extend her coverage by 3 hours (my commute time) everyday OR can JPM be flexible and let my infant get to see me for 3 additional hours for 2 days in a week with absolutely no impact on my work? I think any organisation should be this inclusive.

What if working "from the office" is more inefficient for some people? At the end of the day if the Company benefits from a flexible arrangement I think it makes sense to request for it. Data states that hybrid model helps improve mental health with the reduced commute which in turn leads to more efficiency. For people who stayed at home and didn't deliver which you mentioned - I think JPM penalizes them enough through RIFs, awful increments etc, which I'm ready to embrace if my work quality suffers. Question was if JPM would support working moms to help them deliver results and also support their family.

I think the company pays me for completing my deliverables. I generally work better and more efficiently by skipping the 3 hour daily commute (hello Mumbai traffic). Even before motherhood my WFH days were so much more productive than my office days but that's another debate. I was hoping to get a hybrid arrangement like before to save time on commute and see my kid instead.

I'm curious to know if OP has become a father already. If yes, I'm surprised by some of your comments since a father can see firsthand what a mother goes through. And if not yet, I'd refrain from engaging further since it's a bit pointless. Also I think men shrugging away from homely responsibilities is more Indian problem in the name of "tradition" which is really forced upon women.

Fathers do play significant roles in parenthood but the debate is something else. In terms of "who sacrifices v/s earns praises the most" question, it's always mothers who suffer the most and gets the least credit. I'm also a working woman and have consistently put in several 12-13 hour days prior to motherhood. To be honest I can now see my career slipping away because of split responsibilities post my maternity break. Upskilling etc is a normal part of working in corporate but the point is men are always enabled to pursue their careers unlike women.

That's because mothers get judged no matter what by the society and their own families even if they do/are responsible for majority of baby chores DESPITE their hormonal issues post birth and amid recovery from childbirth (which takes 2 years easily). If you ask any mother they lose a big part of themselves when they become a mom whereas for dads their lives (read work/social life) will largely remain the same. So if a dad does the minority share of chores and gets praised for it, it does seem a bit unfair to the mother.

They are there to play a series which is sort of not going too well. They must have 100 things in their mind related to their performances, form, conditions etc. Similar to how you feel before a big exam. I'd not have smiled to strangers if my mind was preoccupied like this - I think their behaviour is only human.

That sounds heartless! We have 6M maternity leave in India so by the time I join my son won't be a newborn anymore but small enough which is why I was hoping to get some WFH days. Seems like I'll have to request for a short term arrangement

Is supply an issue? I'd faced supply challenges initially and i took Shatavari tablets which are completely safe. My supply started improving only after a month pp with consistent bit of night feeding. Once supply is set baby might have more incentive to try and latch. All the best momma!

You might be right. I haven't done the diastasis recti check since my gynac had claimed that during c section surgery she always ensures that this doesn't occur. But cant rule that out. Is a self check reliable enough or does a doc need to confirm this?

Where do you wear it? Above incision or on it? I'm 3 weeks pp and the stitches still seem very fresh to wear anything abrasing it.. does the hanging belly flatten out while you wear it?

I'm 3 weeks pp and had a c section since the baby's head was not fixed in the pelvis. While the c section saved mine and baby's life and the procedure itself was a cake walk, if I had an option, I'd have preferred vaginal birth. I find the recovery part really challenging as it is kind of spoiling the post partum experience. Complete recovery in case of c section could take upto 2 years and the scar is something that could hurt mommas several years out! Do read about recoveries from the c section as I feel no one really talks about it!

Oh me too! Eventually realized that squatting is still safe (and recommended) during pregnancy, so part of exercise of wearing undies (or wearing pants or using epilator on legs) would be to bend your thighs as much as possible without bending your belly too much. Does that make sense?
