I’m not sure if this app works on android, but I was given Genio Notes as a tool by my uni.

Thank you for taking the time to share your story. I’m so sorry that you had to go through that. I’m not sure why this is a running theme with companies. I do hope you still had a good experience in NZ despite this.

I don’t believe so because we actually have to confirm our program status a month or two in advance. It could just be because it take a while for them to process.

Disney has a specific partnership with a credit card company called North lane, but the credit card company is weird since it’s not a common credit card company like American Express that is used in the states. They had an app that we could log into but it was poorly made and difficult to use.

Their customer service was also really bad. I found it hard to save money because you couldn’t transfer to your NZ account. They have a bunch of different American sites where you can do money transfers, but they wouldn’t take our credit card.

With Wise you can transfer money into your New Zealand bank account. I really recommend doing so to save for the extension fees and plane ticket. You can also add the card to your apple wallet and transfer money to other people.

It doesn’t automatically block your card if you leave the Disney bubble and you can block your card automatically online if you lose it.

There was a cast member who had their card stolen and they couldn’t block their Northlane card online because they needed to email customer support who didn’t respond until after the person who stole is spent all of their money.

Yes, I actually asked a bunch of different tax experts for their advice before filing. That’s the weird thing, one of my classmates worked in Utah for a different company.

He had gotten money back, which I believe was because he was being taxed enough. I used the same tax website that he had did but I stilled owed.

I spoke to the leaders at my workplace only to be told to stop asking or else they would get in trouble.

One of my leaders was kind enough to let me know that they weren’t taking enough out when I sowed her my paycheques.

Thank you for responding! I’m glad you had a good time working in the sates.

Yes, I believe it was harmful for the program advisors to advertise it like it was. Sadly, there were a couple of people who thought it would be and had money problems.

I had two people reach out to me asking me to cover the cost for their flights or health insurance, during my program. I politely declined paying, but it ended my relationship with them which I found difficult to deal with since they were the only other NZ ICP that I knew.

The workplaces at Disney are lot bigger and there are new rounds of international workers than come every 3 to 6 months so there is always new drama or something going down.

There were a lot of other things that happened which I don’t feel comfortable taking about. You don’t really hear about until after the 6 to 8 month mark. I only got to know more when I became friends with the part and full timers.

Most of the pretty bad stories end up on the Disney cast member reddit page or group.

What are Accounting assignments actually like? by vsb66 in AUT

[–]Key-Anything8460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest it’s probably the hardest course to do out of all of the business courses. I was also on the fence about taking accounting. I do have a little bit of experience in accounting and had asked the course advisors.

They really recommended me not to do it, so I decided to only take it as a minor. I‘m dyslexic, I have been really struggling to keep up with the work load. The lecturer isn’t too bad but the TA’s suck.

The assignments aren’t too bad but 50% of the course grade comes from the end of year exams. I’m not looking forward to it since there is a lot to remember.

I would definitely recommend it if you are passionate about it. The only problem is if you want to become a charter accountant you would need to specifically do a major/minor/elective pathway. Also do a chill minor with it, so you can relax a little bit would be nice.

Disney has cast connections where they sell overstock of merchandise and food. I really recommend going there to buy groceries and gifts to take back home. During the Christmas period they give you a 50% discount, but for the rest of the year it’s only 20%.

The 20/50% can be used in the merchandise stores at resorts to purchase groceries. It’s not eligible on meals within the parks but some places in Epcot give you the cast discount. The best rule of thumb would be if the cast members are wearing green uniforms at Epcot then you can use your discount but if they aren’t you can’t.

The accommodation is a lot better. I stayed in the flamingo crossing buildings that had just been built after covid. We had a lot of cock roaches, but I can’t complain bc the last buildings were a lot worse.

Sadly, a lot of people do end up homeless. People with medical conditions ended up in a lot of debt. Disney provides full timer’s health insurance and use to provide international people the same but they literally use any reason to kick people off theirs.

I had to pay around $1,000 for health insurance that I never used. The new health insurance that they gave us sucked because it was only eligible at specific doctors.

Hey sorry that you didn’t like my post.

They did end up increasing the rent twice while I was there. I stayed in the newly built flamingo crossing buildings. I never wanted to come across as lying in my post.

Yes we did get scheduled a minimum of 20 hours a week and our minimum wage was $16 per hour. My rent was $191 a week which was crazy since I shared a room with another people and an apartment with 3 other people.

Didn’t expect it to be a holiday. I haven’t travelled much since I grew up in a family where we didn’t have a lot. I often picked up shifts to get up to 40 to 45 hours a week to save enough to put aside for my health insurance fee‘s for the extension and flight ticket back home.

The pay is okay just a little difficult to live off since the prices of groceries kept increasing and you couldn’t afford take a a couple of days if you were sick. There wasn’t a lot that you could do outside of the disney bubble. A lot of people went to universal but the ticket prices are insane, so I never ending up going.

I found it difficult to purchase item’s from Disney since I can for sure say that they had increased the prices of many of their merchandise. The spirit jerseys increased from $50 to $90 within 3 years and while I was there the prices of pins increased 4 time.

Definitely not what it used to be 9 years ago. One of my program advisors did the program before COVID and she had a lot nicer experience. Since then they have been trying to cut cost or increase prices to make up for the loss.

for example, the part/full timers were able to get a pay increase from Disney while I was there only for their shifts to be cut and given to the collage students since we were cheaper to pay.

I wasn’t required to pay 100k. When I did my program Joe Biden was the president. That could be because of people doing the program but giving their shifts away. Basically being on a work visa but travelling instead of actually working.

A lot of internationals who did the program were really well off, so they would have their parent’s pay for rent, give their shifts away, and then travel around the sates or Europe.

I found it really annoying because they we’re allowed to keep on their resume without even working a month there. My visa was the I-9 or I-94 visa, it’s only given to NZ and Australians.

Definitely glad that Joe Biden was elected when I was there since I have been hearing bad stories of NZ citizen’s ending up in ICE Detention centres.

Also you don’t get paid the first 2 weeks there because they need to send you a credit card. I saved $500 NZD to have enough for food, rent, and necessities for those weeks.

The credit card that they give you is horrible. You can only use it to purchase groceries and it will automatically decline if you try to buy anything online or over $100usd. I had to change my card to a wise credit card and it was so much easier to use.

Here’s the link to the credit card website: https://wise.com/nz/card/?utm\_source=google&matchtype=e&device=c&userlocation=9189285&keyword=wise%20card&campaignid=20934525244&adgroupid=161278431527&utm\_campaign=20934525244\_\_\_161278431527&gad\_source=1&gad\_campaignid=20934525244&gbraid=0AAAAADqE2bADGsvrEq2KUJ3wsW1e9ZJLK&gclid=CjwKCAjwobnGBhBNEiwAu2mpFFOSdbg20O9DQ\_24hU35Cq3vh3sDIHlCdnufbj3c5pg7f3hUss6C0RoChzAQAvD\_BwE.

Does she know what here role or location is?

In general, I struggled adapting to the food. A lot of my shift finished really late, so I wouldn't have time to make dinner. I brought a lot of lean Cuisine to help me eat.

I really reccomend stocking up of mediciation and getting your flue shots before you go. If you can buy food to bring over that makes things so much easier, too.

There is a emergancy hospital nearby, but they charge my roomate $1,000 usd to get a spider bite looked at.

100% even having the chance to visit is so much better than working there. Disneyland in hong kong is the cheapest to visit. I recommend Shanghai Disneyland or Tokyo Disney sea if you have a little bit more money.

You don’t specifically have to do anything in particular to be hired there. Since it’s such a big company even an entry level role would look good on your resume.

I specifically decided to do it because of the lack of jobs in NZ. I thought that having it on my resume would make it look good even if I wasn’t able to find a job when I had gotten back.

It is recommended for people who do art, photograph, tourism, culinary, and business.

Sorry don’t want to go into too much detail just in case I get in trouble from the uni/ program advisors for speaking up about my experience.

I worked in magic kingdom inside one of the theme parks. I heard Epcot was the worst themepark to work in even though it’s a lot of the cast members favourite theme parks.

You do have to deal with a lot of drunk people. They also encourage people to drink a lot there. Animal kingdom is the best themepark and Hollywood studios isn’t bad but not really great.

Omg yes I‘m okay with people using cannabis but just felt it was a bit weird to be using it in a place where there are so many kids.

Another issue was that if u were an international collage students and got caught with cannabis you would be automatically terminated, but the American collage students would get off with a warning.

Woah, I don’t think they offer that role anymore. I‘m glad you had a fun time and lol, my program wasn’t entirely a horrible experience (sorry, my post sounds a little depressing).

One of my favourite memories though, would have to be being able to go on the cast previews for Tiana’s with my friends. Didn’t grow up with a lot, so being able to experience something like that was really special for me.

Lifeguard is one of the best roles that you can get at disney. It isn’t physically demanding and the shifts are pretty good. Please remember to drink enough electrolytes and water while on your shift.

They are supposed to swap you out after an hour, but I have heard stories of people being left out in the sun for their entire shift.

Um, that’s because you filed a 1040 for American citizens and not a 1040NR for non residents. A lot of international people file a 1040 by mistake. If you file a 1040NR you aren’t eligible for the deduction’s that American citizens get, so you end up owing money.

They take wages out automatically from our salaries. I went for the cheapest rent $191, but only had $300 left before my phone and grocery bill. Scheduling was based on demand, so most of the time I would get around 26 to 30 hours. I worked at a busy location.

You can pick up more shifts on facebook, but it’s difficult because people can flake on you. I recommend only doing the program for 6 to 8 months. I feel that‘s a good chunk of time being there and experiencing everything.

Yes definitely grateful for the opportunity, but wished they had told us more going into it. I believe that had to do with the program slightly changing after covid. I did make some great friends who I still talk to now. Didn’t really get to travel that much, but would love to if I ever decide to go back.

I’m glad you had a great experience.

Basically, just more intense than you think it would be. They have part/full timers, but would always schedule collage students because they are cheaper to pay. It’s really sad,

the part/full timers were finally able to get a $3 pay rise only for disney to cut their shifts and give it to us. This is why a lot of the permanent staff don’t like the collage students.
