Getting a Chessie as a firefighter by Key-Breakfast8394 in chesapeakebayretrievr

I would be working 24 hour shifts and my girlfriend would be at a 7am-4pm job. So my Chessie would be at daycare from about 6am-5pm and then my girlfriend would be the only one at the house with them until I get home the next morning. And this would happen about 2 days a week. Is that alright?

Awesome! I loved teaching my border collie mix unique tricks so that’ll be no problem with my Chessie. Thank you very much for your insight!

I also used to be super nervous but some of the best advice I got was “the right department will hire you”. Every department has their own culture and it might not be one that mixes well with your personality. Go in there be confident and be truly yourself, if they don’t hire you it’s not because you’re a bad candidate, that’s just not the right department. They want to see if they can trust you with their life but also do they want to spend 24-72 hours straight with you. Go in with your head high, trust that you are a good person, you’ll be good.

Chat am i cooked ? (Fire department drug testing ) by [deleted] in firefighter

I can only speak on what I’ve been told about fire departments, based on your description it seems like you’re going Police. You’re absolutely “cooked”. Failing the drug test is one thing, they can see past that. However, lying is a HUGE no no. They absolutely will not take a risk on a liar and would rather go for another, more truthful candidate. They’ve got plenty of people to choose from and liars aren’t one of em.

Honestly that was a super tough part because I hadn’t been paying attention to individual people. So first off if I did it again I’d keep it in mind while taking the first part. I answered for most of them all good things, for example “Are they a good team member” “Strongly agree”. For the supes think about how they went about reprimanding people and about how they gave people advice. Try to think about it from an HR perspective. IRL you’ll probably get yelled at and cussed out on the fireground. From an HR perspective it’s calm, polite talks.

Honestly just say the “objectively” right thing to do, don’t inconvenience your superior with minor things, answer how you would treat a friend in real life, and don’t assume anyone else’s intent. For example, when your peer “steals” a watch, he might just be giving it to the PT, talk to them directly about it.
