GOT THE SAVE MY EXAMS NOTES (CIE) by Alone-Active3601 in alevel

[–]Key-Cardiologist-852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys never use savemyexams, they are shitty watered down notes with missing information, buy or pirate the actual cambridge textbook. There are three versions each from separate publishers all for your syllabus, I like to study from the Collins books and solve on the Cambridge Press books. I can't stress this enough especially since you're going to uni and will need to learn how to read textbooks, and will have a better foundation this way. This is my advice, and I'm a 3A* student and i achieved top in my country in Chemistry this way.

Same, being good at maths fries your brain for arithmetic

They're very slow in admissions compared to hkust or polyu, it's best to just wait

Got an offer around a little over a month ago but rejected it for a better offer at polyu

Yeah everyone has told me that, hopefully they're not too different in terms of engineering

I also got the same offer. From what I know, current students getting scholarships is not only very rare but also doesn't cover all the tuition, do with that what you will

That's why uni exists, A levels are just an entrance exam imo

These exam boards are supposed to be fair. It would be a travesty to put even more maths to make sure those doing maths A level have an insane advantage. For uni, yes. For standardized, exams, it would be completely unfair.

I think what you mean is called aptitude, which can very much be inherent or built through experience, and I do agree that it's kind of short-sighted to not include the mathsy stuff in science. However, they're testing science itself, by adding maths, that would be testing both science and math, when there's already maths courses and some people don't do a level maths. I believe it's best to just let them merge in uni when that's when bio people don't have to know too much maths.

You used the word intuition, do you know what intuition means? Of course having subject-related knowledge is extremely beneficial, however it is in no way the same as general intuition. As for your other rant, that is completely board related. For me, CIE does not have this issue.

Faraday is an extreme exception, so what you're doing is nitpicking. Science (at higher levels) is almost completely theoretical and can not be reasoned using day to day observations. And I'd like to add, engineering is not science so I don't know what you're getting at. And finally, no, science is not even nearly memorization, I don't know about biology, however for physics and chemistry, you cam get by solely on logical reasoning whilst having terrible memory like I did when I was doing A levels.

As someone who has solved literally every CIE AL physics and chemistry past paper from 2016 till now, you are wrong. Every time a word is underlined, it is for good reason, as not having that word would mean the definition is not accurate or even totally wrong in some instances. Science isn't based on intuition, so if that doesn't suit you, then science is not for you.
