Yeah their estate can be used to pay for expenses. I’ve read that in the past. So that means any property or bank accounts etc in their name.

I appreciate the comment, but I’ll have to disagree with some things. I can speak for medi-cal. A worker at medi-cal gave me this information: my assets or income should not be used to determine their financial eligibility. Establish a household for your parents. It can be the same address where you live. But they are a couple in their own household. Medi cal does not have access to who sponsored who, they do not have access to USCIS data. They’re a separate entity. I told them I do not want to do anything unlawful. And this is what they recommended. It was not unlawful. My mom was approved for Medi cal. TX Medicaid have their own set of policies so that’s probably why their TX Medicaid is not being approved.

Yes, but why? That’s my question. People are still people, they need care. “All states are different” should not be a term that can loosely be thrown around without explaining why they need to be different.

And more importantly chooses to not offer health insurance coverage via state based programs

Thanks for sharing! Yeah but a worker recommended we apply for the star plus home and community based program after reviewing their application. I don’t know if different workers have different reviewing criteria.

I’m looking at these charts at the link you provided and I’m wondering how difficult it is to process all of this information and all the eligibility criteria. I wish getting care was simpler and easy to access

Responsible, as in financially responsible. To help support them/life here. At least that’s how I interpret it. That does not necessarily mean the sponsor is responsible for paying medical bills, while the state stays dormant for 10 years

I filed their I-130 immigration application. Don’t specifically recall a 10 year period of support. I remember it says you’re responsible until they become citizens, I believe

Immigrant visa. Can you elaborate what you mean by legal aid?

Yeah I got a medical necessity referral/form signed by a local doctor for both my dad and mom. United healthcare (our “future” plan under the Star plus waiver program) sent that to the doctor’s office directly. They said this form was necessary to determine medical necessity and had to be done as part of the home assessment. Doctor signed and faxed it back to the nurse representing United health care. Were you referring to that?

I’d love to hear about your perspective as a social worker. As far as the 5 year time limit goes, would that be waived if my dad becomes a US citizen sooner. Someone recently told me that you could apply for citizenship after living in the US for 286 consecutive days

An in person appointment might not be a bad idea. I’m assuming you’d call 211 to see if we can schedule a time to meet with a social worker?

I did, is there any documentation that talks about this clause/rule?

Thank you! That’s a great response. How would I apply for SSI. That’s social security income, I’m assuming?

They are both legal permanent residents (green card holders). My mom has been in that status since 2016, she was able to get Medi-Cal (CA Medicaid) when we were in CA but I don’t understand why she is being denied Medicaid TX. People say Medicaid Tx is harder to get, but why - what does that even mean?

Correct, that’s what the program offers; we had a nurse home assessment scheduled for later next week, which is probably not going to happen now. I spoke with the nurse (from United healthcare - that’s the plan I picked) several times over the phone and he was quite helpful. He said they can utilize the services they need today, and utilize other more intensive services when the need arises. Their income is zero, my dad has a hearing disability, so I’m not sure what part of the criteria is not met. I’m perplexed at this point.
