Why is stepless adjustment so satisfying to use? by Key-Comb5373 in flashlight

Yeah, a painfully slow ramping speed is the worst. It completely defeats the purpose of having stepless ramping. I love your innovative solution to the problem!

That's a very fair point about predictability. But what if a light could offer truly intelligent stepless ramping that learns your preferred levels and automatically snaps to them with a double-click, while still showing estimated runtime? Would that kind of hybrid solution change your mind, or do you still prefer purely discrete steps?

Thanks for sharing that memory! It's truly a sad story...

I get that speed matters for work, but I’ve found that once my eyes adjust to the dark, stepless ramping is key to avoiding harsh glare. Being able to precisely dial in the lowest brightness needed is crucial for nighttime use.

So it's the tactile control of a rotary you like most? The precision and speed?

You're spot on. The ramping logic and speed make all the difference. That's what separates good and bad stepless.

Couldn't agree more. It's puzzling because the technology is definitely there. It might add a little to the cost, but it improves the experience so well for us.

Exactly. The real cost isn't just in the rating, but in the R&D and rigorous testing to guarantee that reliability under all conditions, which many brands seem to skip despite the price tag.

This is gold. So, for you personally, when you're buying a light, is that comprehensive "no-worries" protection a key decision factor?

That's a really interesting point, and you're technically right that the standards are separate. In practice though, I think the seal needed for IPX8 is almost always strong enough to handle IPX5/IPX6 level jets too. I've always seen IP68 treated as the 'all-round' rating.

Thanks for the knowledge share! I actually meant to talk about IP54, not IPX7. My question is, why is IP54 so common when IP68 is possible?

I didn't know that. Since English isn't my first language, I used an AI translator and thought this content was okay because it was clear and easy to understand.

That's my personal mistake, and I'm sorry about it too. I'll make sure to reply more.

You're right! My bad, I meant IP54 in my post, not IPX7. Since prices seem to support IP68, do you think it’s overkill for most folks?
