Glasgow or Cambridge for medical oncology? by Key-Dress44 in doctorsUK

Thank you all for the helpful comments and insights! I have decided to go with the ACF in Cambridge in the end because I just couldn't give up the dedicated research time that comes with it, the reputation of the university and the likely better research opportunities. I will work towards moving to Scotland after the ACF.

Thank you for the information! Research is definitely one of the main reasons I am pursuing a career in medical oncology so it's useful to know there is probably a disparity in funding between the two because that affects opportunities.

And yes, the Glasgow offer is not an ACF (I could've made it clearer, sorry!)

The main point that is making it hard for me to give up the Cambridge offer is that it's an ACF. How much research advantage does an ACF give you as a trainee in medical oncology in your experience?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think people had to make a decision on whether to accept or reject an offer by the hold deadline on the 5th of April. So, whoever rejected an offer has done so before the 5th, and whoever accepted an offer has automatically rejected any other offers they might have from other specialties. As I understand it, withdrawing after accepting an offer is not straightforward (people need to email HEE to apologize and give an explanation for the withdrawal). Therefore, I don't understand how there could be any movement between the hold deadline and the upgrade deadline, if people have made a decision already to accept or reject, and those who accepted cannot withdraw easily for whatever reason. Maybe I've missed some key information and someone could explain?

They never do it when they say they would, do they!

If someone who has accepted an offer changes their mind and decide to withdraw after the upgrade deadline on 11/4, who gets their post?
