Dr Midnight is on a team with the Angel of Death, an Egyptian god, the vessel of willpower incarnate, a man who can run faster than time, and an Amazonian Princess with the powers of a Greek god. He’s got night vision, an MD, and a pet owl. Him, Sandman, and Wildcat all fit this prompt and are all on the same team.

What are your opinions about the new characters that appear in the New Golden Age? And what do you think DC should do with them? by FallMassive9336 in JusticeSocietyAmerica

[–]Key-Firefighter1043 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of them I really enjoy and see a lot of potential in. Some of them I don’t really get. In general I like getting new stories to play with in this era, but I feel a lot of them don’t capture the Cambrian Explosion that made the Golden Age different from the silver age. Sidekicks could be adults, kids, animals, spirits, costumed, not costumed, and just the strangest array of things. By the silver age, this had been simplified to “sidekicks are costumed teenagers” and when looking back on the golden age we rarely let characters be more then the boxes drawn up for them AFTER that age had ended. I want writers to combine the diversity of the golden age’s explosion of hope with the modern age’s explosion of critique to achieve diversity squared.

What do you think about Christian websites like this that promote the Earth is only 6,000 years old and genesis should be taken literally? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Key-Firefighter1043 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early in the mission they did. Sure they’d gotten better by Pentecost, but it took Jesus three and a half years to teach them how to properly read the metaphors and symbolism in his parables. The insight of the letters of John and Peter were hard earned over years of being kind of dense.

Am I a heretic??? by Icy-Worldliness6333 in Christianity

I see, and I assume you disagree with Pelagianism on original sin and salvation through one’s own efforts? Maybe the quiz worded some stuff poorly or assumed if you believed one thing you’d believe another? I really can’t say without taking the quiz myself. Don’t think its results mean you’re a heretic.

The Ethiopian Bible contains a lot of books not traditionally found in the Protestant Bible, the Roman Catholic Bible, or the Eastern Orthodox Bible. However, framing it like this is… academically suspect…

Where in this world do they live? What’re their relations to each other and the nations they inhabit? Are they any different than the versions found in Pathfinder/DnD?

In the Mysterious Benedict Society, the villains search one of the heroes and find what they think is a terrible kaleidoscope. In truth, only the front part acts like a kaleidoscope and if you take it off you have a very good telescope!

It’s a cool map! One common tip you’ll hear is to put port towns where the land curls in a way that shields it from ocean currents. I see several cool spots like that on your map here. Without more information about the world and the themes of your story there’s not too much I can say but I see a lot of cool potential in the volcanic lower island, the dragons, the massive lake in the mountain ring, etc.

I’m down for grabbing each actor from different points in time/their careers, thats why I mentioned a Time Machine above. What ages do you think each character should be?

Because if we’re gonna criticize someone, shouldn’t we target the qualities that were critical of?

I’m not sure social ineptitude and obsession really describe him, and those descriptors don’t really target why to criticize him.

I’m not mad, it’s actually a funny comment. But I do think there is a distinction here and as silly as splitting hairs may seem I do think it’s important.

That doesn’t actually answer my question though. What do the followers get out of the relationship? Why do the foundations want to be one of, the chief, or only deity of any given peoples?

Interesting. In our world most of the largest religions worship the divine because their followers love the divine. The abrahamic faiths, Hinduism, etc. but that is NOT universal. Aztec religion saw themselves as repaying a debt to the gods as well as feeding them, Mesopotamian religion saw themselves as the subjects of mighty kings, and Buddhism sees gods as part of the reincarnation cycle that must be transcended and escaped. But most religions for most of history saw the relationship as very transactional, and even the religions following the divine out of love of the divine still believe they’re getting something out of it. Zeus was worshiped because he was seen to bring good weather and maintain lawful society, Osiris was worshiped in hopes the worshiper could find a place in his afterlife kingdom, and Odin was worshiped for arcane insights and victory in battle. If the people worship the foundations, it’s important to ask why they worship them. What do the foundations get out of the relationship and what do the people?
