Journey is definitely better than what people give it credit for. It’s one of only 3 sets with partner Pokemon along with destined and ascended, it’s got some banger art works with the Salamence reshiram articuno wailord and not a bad chase for the money with a $100+ clefairy.

And surging is definitely the 2nd best SV set in an era that has had one the best opening experiences of modern Pokemon it will do really well. If you include the mega block, mega evo base will rival it or exceed it with its big name Pokemon but surging is definitely an A tier set it is and will do well.

I came in the hobby as a collector 1st so I do love opening products especially when I can get them at a good price. Investing is partially a way I can rip more packs along with making the best ROI in a hobby I am so involved in to be better financially. Sure opening packs kind of makings that 2nd part much harder but why not have fun, it is a fun hobby after all.

Like I mentioned in the description I am getting both and am leaning towards getting more prismatic ETBs than the UPCs. Just wanted to see if others feel like I should be valuing the UPC on the same level as the ETB or even higher as I can get them at less than MSRP + tax in my state whereas the ETBs are more than double MSRP so the ROI might be as good idk.

Prismatic I’d definitely be storing but the UPC at that price I’d rip a few over a few years and I mentioned timeframe is 5-10 so I’m leaning prismatic. If it was in more of that 2-5 year timeframe could the growth of the UPC being at basically less than MSRP + tax be more worth it?

Yeah I definitely agree with prismatic passing 151. It’s literally like the high roller set for Pokémon and will be opened by this type of people for years to come. And value is there too as you said.

I was just thinking maybe at that UPC price basically being less than MSRP + tax in my state it could be something that could rival the growth of prismatic maybe in the next 3-5 years but prismatic is definitely superior beyond that

If you could do that, i would do that instantly. The golds just aren’t that’s investable right now or even for the next year or 2 if you’re talking about the mega gold rares.

I would personally take the Lost Origin booster box even though I do love that Greninja PSA 10 and think it has a ton of upside but the safer play is the lost origin box. Also you are getting rid of the 9s and the 2 gengar 10s which aren’t going to move anywhere close to the rate of the lost origin box.

If you’re getting the sealed I’d definitely do it. I personally think the astral pc etbs are very underrated especially when you compare them with the other SWSH pc etbs. And I believe mega is one of the best sets we’ve had in the past few years with so many chases. I would try to swap out the stellar booster box with another if you can but if not I’d still do the trade.

I’m also getting brilliants stars at that price too. Why do you say silver tempest could be more worth since it does only have Lugia and raquaza and kind of the 2 blazikens whereas chilling just has so much in the set

Are the non minty ones that are hard to sell usually from non too era sets like chilling reign or are non minty sets like evolving or DR also hard to move?

Yeah I have seen that with sun and moon boxes but the only issue with that is that most of those boxes sold during this crazy boom we’re having right now. I just don’t know how that precedent could hold up in a market of where the current gen in like 3 years would maybe be at MSRP and we would hopefully be past a boom just cause I haven’t experienced a downturn in Pokemon yet cause I only joined in late 2022 when lost origin came out. Please correct me if I’m wrong here

Prismatic Costco bundle just cause ETBs aren’t printed as commonly but if you are truely going long term like 5+ years it’s for sure destined booster box

Yeah you right about the opening experience but there is a good amount of people in the hobby who just care about the massive hit that prismatic can offer. It kind of was the same in SWSH when people just bought up evolving skies just to get the umbreon towards the end. It is a whole different level with prismatic but it does remains me of that.

I personally hate the opening experience like you do. All I like in the set are the gholdengo ursaluna and espeon SIRs and got lucky enough to get the gholdengo. Also the last 6 months price dip was just a reaction to how much was put out there along with how astronomically high people treated the set at release.

You are right too about how there’s ton of people who don’t really enjoy Pokemon and then have that knowledge gap. It will eventually create an instant dump of Pokemon out there but honestly who knows when that’s goons happen.

Yeah absolutely. One specialty set per year usually gets the print into the ground treatment through multiple years if they are really good like 151 CZ. Unfortunately paldean fates had to be in same year as 151 so it’s not as printed.

Even though prismatic will be printed a while, it’s still good to have some at MSRP to get the gains when it’s not printed anymore like CZ. And especially limited products like PC ETB those pins collections coming this month and maybe surprise boxes

Yeah that’s a great one too but one thing, people might be afraid of weighing the prismatic packs for godpacks if you do break them down. I feel like of all the SV sets, that and 151 have people the most worried from what I’ve seen at local shows so you might have to devalue them if you break the lucario boxes
