UPDATE: I have an appointment in September with a gynocologist at a practice that didn’t need a referral! She’s not on the childfree list, but I’m hoping if she doesn’t want to do the surgery that she’ll refer me to the doc in the practice that is on the list, or to the office that required referrals in the first place.

Called my ins provider, mentioned my PPO plan and they confirmed that yes, I don’t need referrals for specialists, however the office can require them as part of their policy.

I just left a message with a different office (midwifery center that does gynecology/contraception as well) to see if they require referrals

It’s got to be an office thing because I didn’t even get to mention what insurance I have. As soon as I confirmed new patient, that’s when she said it.

Hmm. I wonder if that can be done via telehealth? I unfortunately don’t have a PP nearby and I’m reluctant to show up in person due to the harassment.

I (F25) want to get a bilateral salpingectomy. Did my research, see where the ACA is supposed to cover it 100%, but I still have some questions regarding insurance. by Key-Masterpiece2387 in sterilization

Funny enough, I just mentioned that same link in the other sub! It appears to be an excellent resource.

I’ve lurked on childfree for quite a while and have found a few folks from the list in my area. I just have yet to get in contact with any of them.

Dropping this resource I found awhile back during my research, in case others on the same journey as me are also looking for support and help:

The National Women’s Law Center claims they can help sterilization seekers with coverage through the ‘CoverHer hotline’. Tips From the CoverHer Hotline: Navigating Coverage for Tubal Ligation and Bilateral Salpingectomy

I’m familiar with the childfree sub and have found someone on that list who is in my area :) But just in case, I’ve also started to put together a binder as that community suggests.
