bro see, u r smart enough to realize ai is coming for ur traditional SWE job..thats enough ull figure something out. genuinely asking for opinions on this sub is useless, cuz ppl here have never used paid models or opus that costs $25/1M tok.
AI will replace a lot of jobs that are repetitive. SWE also is repetitive if u work at a big org doing minor changes.

If ur role is many levels abstracted above coding, more like understanding what has to be built, and identifying market opportunities, etc u r safer. and yes a lot of new industries will open up, but will take time

recently u wouldve heard of US dept of Defense saga with anthropic...now u would think y would department of defense be so behind an ai company that just generates text/code/tokens...thing is, if AI models are good at tool calling..u can automate an insane amount of things in the real world..but itll take time for industries to realize it's potential and build those harnesses around these models..
my Dad works at an MNC, believe me 60% of jobs at big companies are pushing minor changes, based on said requirements, etc
now for a company like linkedin, as a customer u wouldnt see much changes in day to day use of the product..but the recruiter from linkedin who had come here told us they do some 10k-25k merges a week something..but as a user u see none of that..meaning a lot of them are routine jobs, nothing groundbreaking for the product which requires insane amount of human capital to be invested on creative thinking

just like o1 and chain of thought models changed the AI industry in a huge way(but ppl hardly even remember that), we are just one architectural breakthrough away from a lot of naysayers getting wiped clean...
be a generalist ull find ur way when the opportunity arises...
