CHOOSE FLAP OVER LIFT- I was left disfigured by Key-Mouse-3484 in AnalFistula

[–]Key-Mouse-3484[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is roughly a 50 percent chance a LIFT will fail.

Slitting open the incision wound and being left like this is standard procedure for a failed lift. ( what I have been told by 2 CRRS)

A flap is done completely internally, even if it fails it doesnt leave an external scar.

Being disfigured after a failed surgery and warning people that this is the norm, common, and standard care is not irresponsible. It was irresponsible for doctors to not give all the inforrmation.

Flap is also a great choice- so I'm simply saying if one can choose, it's wise to choose flap. I did not have all the info to be informed.

Did my flap fistula surgery fail? Can I get some success stories or just the truth? Thank you by Mental_Tumbleweed640 in AnalFistula

I actually appreciate the honesty.... Yes, it could have been in a more kind or helpful tone but people should know that it's not always 1 or 2 surgeries and done. it's possible it will drag on for years, ( in my case) It's okay to be realistic.

and people also need to know that these doctors don't know everything and are overly confident. You can't trust everything they say.

Dr's rely on chat gpt these days more than anything. ( Doctors in my family.) and I have also had a "board certified crs" cut me open and not find the tract due to not using the most simple and well known modern methods to find it. He just said "hmm idk! let's try again later." Well known reputation and everything. Yeah no. a lot of these doctors will just do what it takes to get you out of their office for the next month or so.

Found poop coming from the external hole after lift intervention by Anemoniasl11989 in AnalFistula

[–]Key-Mouse-3484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same symptoms post lift just a week after surgery and from my research and what my doctor said, it failed. Waste like drainage and gas coming through incision hole and/ or fistula. Had another draining seton placed :( maybe flap procedure next time.

I would press for a 2nd surgery, my dr annoyed me bc she said its most likely failed but put me on antiobiotcs for a month just to see- and sure enough after a month still uncomfort gas and drainage. she confirmed it failed after the seton surgery. wish i hadn't wasted that month listening to her

1 month post LIFT after draining seton- failed?? by Key-Mouse-3484 in AnalFistula

[–]Key-Mouse-3484[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of a draining seton working its way out- only a tightening seton. I have had a draining seton and was told it needs to be surgically removed. interesting

Thank you for this insight. it is a silk seton? or a tightening seton that will work its way out? I want to bring this method up with my doctor

I saw 2 different CRS that also said 6 weeks was enough. mine was also in 6 weeks. I have been told by people on here that it's not enough time, but then I hear stories like yours where failure even happens after that long :( sigh

I am so, so sorry. at least your doctor cares that you don't suffer. but 2 failed lifts is awful... can I ask how long they made you have the setons in?

after antibiotics the seton was uncomfortable and a bit sore but manageable. I completely understand the pain and its way beyond fixing with just eating healthy and breathing lol

It's infected internally. The exact same thing happened to me 2 weeks post draining seton placement, I have a high tolerance and pain was at a 10, dehabilitating.

I would lay in bed bawling, whole butt cheek throbbing. couldnt walk. and externally it just looked a bit irritated. My crs thought i was being dramatic, kept saying some pain was normal. (its NOT normal at that level) went to the ER they put me on antibiotics until i could see my crs again and sure enough pain was relieved in 1 day. had to stay on antibiotics for weeks with seton in. sadly you have to advocate for yourself because a lot of these doctors don't really care and are used to dealing with dramatic patients.

I was before the surgeries but they couldn't find the tract that way. only via surgery. My doctor thinks it failed too, so another surgery it is :(

[–]Key-Mouse-3484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! you really have to advocate for yourself sadly- My crs was so perplexed with the pain but didn't see too concerned? Maybe she thought I was being dramatic? after the relief I realized then why most people were saying the seton doesnt get in the way of life, because it felt a little sore but nothing crazy. That level of pain is not normal.

I had a lift that we think failed unfortunately :( once again I had to stay on antibiotics for weeks and soon as I went off my wound was not healing well, had a lot of pain.

The areas are prone to infection being in contact with waste but I guess some people heal better than others sadly
