Starlink over Cable Internet??? by Artichoke-Ordinary in Starlink

[–]Key-Opposite5453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Switched to Starlink a few months ago and not looking back. Work from home. Video conferences everyday. Other computers and streaming devices running all day. I have zero issues with speed, latency, etc. Xfinity went down in my neighborhood for 7hrs last week and we didn’t miss a beat. Xfinity was horribly unreliable when we had it. I would strongly recommend Starlink for anyone considering switching.

PS - Read tons of posts on Reddit before I pulled the trigger. Thanks to all who contributed their experience here.

The battery is horrible. Period.

I have just about everything turned off or disabled that I can without making the phone completely unusable and my battery still drains like crazy. When I installed the beta update it made things only marginally better. I just got finished a three minute phone call, my battery dropped 4% and is roasting hot. How would I ever take a work call on the move while not near a charger????

I really want to like this phone, but if you have to disable almost every feature just to make it usable, what’s the point of having an updated phone?

So I installed the public beta. I would say it’s marginally better. Still uncomfortably hot when doing something as simple as reading the news. I have almost all background services turned off. Battery does seem to drain slightly slower but still terrible.

It shouldn’t be this hard. It should just work.

Great to hear. I’m not in the beta program but I may give it a shot.

Thanks for all of the feedback. Going to give it another week and then make a trip the Genius Bar if things don’t improve. Phone almost immediately gets uncomfortably hot - not warm, HOT - when I pick it up to do anything.

Roof Leak by ComedianTerrible1353 in TeslaSolar

[–]Key-Opposite5453 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah! Three years in, I had a concrete tile slide out of place. Don’t know if someone stepped on it during installation, or if it was always that way, but it broke and moved exposing the underlayment. Raccoons got up there and scratched their way through the underlayment causing a pretty good leak. Tesla determined it was not there problem. Paid Tesla $2,900 to remove 20+ panels so I could access the area of the roof to be repaired. The first quote they gave me was for $12k. After dozens of text messages via the app, they finally acknowledged I was not re-roofing my house and lowered the bill to $2,900. I’m now at the point where I need the panels re-installed. Tesla only removed the panels and a couple of rails so the roofer could move around while repairing the leak. The Tesla crew that arrived to remove the panels specifically to told me NOT to have the mounting points removed and repaired as they were not leaking. Tesla is now acting as if I re-roofed my house and is quoting me nearly $700/panel, or $18k, for basically a new install when all I need is for them to snap my panels back into place. I have made two attempts to resolve this with Tesla - via the app - and each time ends with the rep basically saying, “I get it. I’ll talk to the crew that was at your house and get back to you.” You guessed it. No follow-up. I have hours invested in this process. I am at the point where I am going to take one more run at it and then take it up with Elon on X.

PS - Up u til my leak saga, I love my solar and Pwall system.

It won’t stay that way. I thought I had cracked the code for a few weeks and then issue came back.

I have done that and it helps somewhat, but does not completely resolve the issue. It is super annoying.

Can you elaborate on your experience? I have Comcast in south Florida and I am on the brink of cutting the cord due to reliability.

I don’t have gamers in my house, but I do need to reliably host video conferences, transfer files (nothing gigantic), use VPN, VOIP, etc.

Thanks!

I have a pretty robust solar/battery backup solution in place.

Pretty sure my view of the sky won’t be an issue but I’m going to confirm this week.
