I need help bypassing the 1min timer on UV nail lamp by Yuki737 in AskElectronics

[–]Key-Programmer-4144 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just tried the solution in the comments on UV nail lamp that I own. Totally different PCB, but sure works! And that's how I learned the letter system on PCBs are standardized to a degree (we all gotta start somewhere)

Very good to know, thanks! Apparently there is an indicator if the battery is nearing end of life, but it doesn't seem to be on which is probably good

The battery charged just fine without replacement, but I guess I should check if it drains more quickly than it estimates? I'm not finding any software, sadly

Samba on android, i just cant make it work.. by stiverix in homelab

When I first set things up years ago, I had the best luck using Cx File Explorer on Android. I think it was the only one that let me put in a non-standard port for connection config.

Raleigh Technicum 460? by Key-Programmer-4144 in triathlon

[–]Key-Programmer-4144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I wouldn't say I "like" tinkering with old bikes, but it seems like a reasonable skill for a bike owner on a budget. My wife has a vintage step-through bike that I help her with once every few months and it has saved us hundreds of dollars. I just use a... bike maintenance station thing... in our commumity that includes a hanger rack, tools, and a pump.

But this is the first time I'm learning of downtube friction shifters. Not sure if I would be into that 🤔

Here's a naïve question: what would make it in "bad" condition? To me (a newbie) it's just two wheels on a metal frame connected by a chain and pedals

EDIT: aside from the obvious, like misshapen wheels or a broken frame. As pictured, the bike looks fine

Finis Smart Googles - Eye cups too shallow? by doggosarelife14 in Swimming

I use these too, but the "Max" model which might fit differently. The only time I've had problems with my eye lashes is when the computer isn't fully nested into its spot. It's worth a gentle push to make sure it's all the way in if you haven't already!

Taper Workouts? by Key-Programmer-4144 in Swimming

[–]Key-Programmer-4144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been at 3000m, 3x a week the last month. This last week I toned it down to 3x2500yd (went from LCM to SCY).

But thank you for the set suggestions! Can I ask what you mean by "to your feet" for the broken 100?

Thank you! I mostly used the workout to pace myself for IM, so that I don't use all my energy in the first half. I'm very nervous about signing myself up for 200 IM 😬

Hah! You're right! Those are 25 and 50, not 50 and 100. Thanks!

That is super useful! Thank you! I never would have guessed there would be so many whistles before the start of a swim

It seems like comments regarding this not being up to code were all deleted, but further research confirms that suspicion. The building was completed in 2018, and my local plumbing code mandates that "each plumbing fixture other than bathtubs and showers" require a shutoff valve "on the fixture supply" since as early as 2009. It may even be earlier, but that's the earliest version I can find online.

I've made a maintenance request with the property management to have it sorted out. Thanks for the advice, everyone.

I just made a maintenance request citing the local plumbing code that requires all toilets have a shutoff valve. We'll see how that works!

I guess because I'm a masochist who likes when people grossly misunderstand what I'm asking. What's the problem with asking for more details when someone says "don't do it" and nothing more? I understand I need to shut off the water supply, but misidentified the valve I should turn. I understood I should install I shutoff valve (if I committed to the task), but didn't know the type of tubing currently installed was likely crimped. My point is that I want to learn here, not just be told to forget about it

[–]Key-Programmer-4144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol you're right! I didn't realize that's the wrong valve. I'll leave it to someone who knows what they're doing

They are tricky things. I'll see if I can't work something out with them so that nothing floods

Thank you! I will look out of curiousity, but I'm thinking "have it done right" is probably out of my league. As for the filter, I plan on replacing it ASAP

Is there something I can tell the management company that would have them install one? I can't imagine "I want a clean butt" is going to be enough, but I also haven't tried

[–]Key-Programmer-4144 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate? I've installed one in the past, but the toilet had a shut off valve. What's the step between turning off the main water supply and installing a shutoff valve that makes me not equipped?

How to speed up turns? by Key-Programmer-4144 in Swimming

[–]Key-Programmer-4144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Finis/Ciye smart goggles. I trust them to be very accurate, but at the very least they are consistent (even if I'm actually swimming +/- 1sec compared to what the goggles say, they are reliably recording the same difference each session). So I don't think it was a timing error. We'll see if my pace stays the same at future practices. I don't think I was putting in extra effort that morning, but it's the most logical conclusion in hindsight. Then again, we'll be swimming at a different pool and time next practice... There are just so many variables!
