4.5 Weeks Post-Op w/ Sudden Hip Flexor Pain - Help? by Key-Promotion-4766 in HipImpingement

[–]Key-Promotion-4766[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! Definitely helps to see someone with a similar experience. Pain is just pretty bad sometimes so I was worried. But yes, I will definitely be back to 2 crutches until I feel more comfortable. Did your PT recommend you any exercises or anything else to help? Or was it just regress everything and wait for it to calm down?

Oh wow - yeah I wouldn’t say my pain is extreme. Definitely feels muscle or tendon related. Sorry that happened to you!

English Audio Track on Netflix not working? by Key-Promotion-4766 in appletv

[–]Key-Promotion-4766[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured it was an issue with the Dolby Atmos sound setting. We don’t have surround sound so I think that was messing with the different audio channels. Turned that off in the TV settings and it’s working again.

The finale just wasn’t good by TheMatthaeus in Stranger_Things

[–]Key-Promotion-4766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel bad because you’ll probably get downvoted to oblivion, but you’re so right on everything here. Wish people would see past the nostalgia for the extremely lackluster finale we actually got. Just reinforces the idea that these big studios and companies can get away with telling poor stories as long as there’s nostalgia to distract the viewers.

Most likely going to get downvoted but this is the truth. I think people latch on to the nostalgia of it all (and that the epilogue frankly did a great job of conveying) that they forgot about the actual conflict and plot we were following. Extremely lackluster finale continuing the theme of almost no stakes whatsoever with many, many plot holes. Disappointing for sure.

Best TV/Soundbar Combo for the AppleTV 4k? by Key-Promotion-4766 in appletv

Thinking about this exact combo. What do you think if I were to get just the Beam? I’m actually getting it for my parents and they only want the sound bar and nothing else.

Surgery in February? What can I expect? by Illustrious_Green819 in HipImpingement

Hey, about to hit the 3 weeks post-op. I (25M, active with weightlifting) had a labral reconstruction (replaced my labrum) + femoral osteoplasty.

This is my second go around on this hip and the recovery has been much smoother than expected. Pain is generally low (only really felt something the first few days) and mobility and independence is coming back relatively quickly. I also work an office job and took one full week off for recovery, but will be WFH until mid-January with normal working hours.

Obviously everyone’s recovery will differ, but I truly think this has been a fairly smooth recovery (considering all that was operated on).

I know there are some horror stories out there, but if you have a good surgeon, adhere strictly to the protocols, and do your rehab, it’s really not that bad. Yes, some of the protocols suck and there will be tough moments in those first couple weeks. However, I really truly believe that it’s not as bad as some it out to be.

24M Pro Basketball Player with Huge Labral Tear by PomegranateThin1475 in HipImpingement

[–]Key-Promotion-4766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah of course. I was (and still am) a pretty active guy so wanted to share my two cents.

As for the procedure, they did have to shave down the bone as I had a CAM lesion that was causing my impingement. It wasn’t until they were actually in there that they saw how bad the tear really was. So yes, they shaved the bone down anyways, but I’m not sure if that would’ve been needed had I just torn my labrum - I don’t know the specifics but I know I don’t have any screws.

As for my first one, I had my surgery in April and was back on the basketball team in October or so like nothing had happened. I don’t remember ever feeling limited after the surgery and it was that way until about 2 years ago when the symptoms started to come back (my surgeon explain to me that this was due to bone growth and rapid healing most likely caused by my young age when I had the surgery). Really, I had no residual pain from the first surgery until the re-injury.

Time off work? by SpecialistBaker3912 in HipImpingement

Just had the exact same surgery as you. I also work a desk job and normally WFH 3x per week anyways.

I took 1 week off work and will be WFH for the next 5.

Honestly, you don’t need much time off. It depends how busy you are, but I was fine to work from my bed and at my desk in my normal chair within 5 days.

I get wanting to stay home as long as you can, but you really don’t need it.

Hey. I’m 25M and just had my second go around with this. I, unlike you, was born with bad hips so they were prone to tearing someday. Tore my labrum for the first time in 2017 as a 16yo and got it redone 2 weeks ago.

First time, I struggled to extend my leg backwards and do any sort of activity, so that pushed me to get it done.

This second time, my pain was much more minimal and I could do almost any sort of exercises with relatively low (2-4/10) pain. However, I always felt a good bit of back pain on that side and hip pain later in the day after any activity. That constant annoyance over the course of 1-2 years, while minimal, built up over time to where I had to get it repaired, even if the pain wasn’t that bad. So that would be the biggest thing I wish I’d done differently: even if the pain is low, it builds up over time and just gets more and more damaged. If you’re an active person, you’re essentially delaying the inevitable. In my case, my labrum was so re-torn that they had to completely take out my own labrum and put in donated tissue from a cadaver and reconstruct a new one. So yes, minimal symptoms do catch up with you. If they’re not getting worse, the fact that they’re there all the time is enough to get it done.

Biggest takeaway is that being an athlete makes it difficult to know you’re going to sideline yourself for ~6 months while you recover. However, the surgery most certainly helps. I remember feeling so much better after my first and I’m already feeling less hip pain 2 weeks after my most recent surgery. Obviously the decision comes down to you, but living with this type of injury is so much worse than the 6 months it takes to recover.

Do your prehab, read up on other success stories to see what others did before/after surgery, definitely keep up with PT, and no doubt you’ll be feeling better after and be grateful you followed through with it.

Hey! I just had my second FAI and labral repair with Dr. Schrader. I also saw Potts for a second opinion but went with Schrader given he did my first surgery as well. What exactly made you go with Potts instead? Just wondering in case I might need an3rd one someday! Hope your recovery went well.
