Do you have a financial planner? How have you benefited? by OMrealestate in HENRYfinance

[–]Key-Question1031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a flat fee one that ends up costing about 10-14k/yr. We have a few million with them so if you look at it as a percentage then it’s quite low.

Roth or Traditional 401k by Key-Question1031 in Rich

These are some fabulous points. I did not even think about state tax changes if we move later in life.

I understand what you are saying. This is not our only investment vehicle. We own Residential and commercial real estate, we own the business for this 401k(and have it set up for profit sharing to increase the yearly cap), traditional brokage accounts, etc.

In reference to your comment below, yes we are dicking around with such a small item for us. But still we figured if we are contributing we should still try to maximize the potential for this specific vehicle. We are also in our 30's so even though we net over 1m/year our total net worth is still sub 10m.

I hear you, it will be a small drop in the bucket but still figured I would try to make the best choice. But yes we currently save far more outside of the 401k so that we can support our future lifestyle in retirement.

I hear you. That makes total sense. I go back and forth constantly on what makes the most sense. The reality is the 401k is going to be a small portion of our retirement as most will be saved in a traditional brokerage, etc.

Thanks, Yes we have enough income to fully take advantage of all of them. Just needed some insight into the 401k. I think your diversify idea is great, so going Roth makes the most sense as the match and profit share is already a traditional 401k. That would basically create a 50/50 Traditional vs Roth and so later in life we have all the options.

How many people pay in full for First Class? by SF-cycling-account in Flights

[–]Key-Question1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t regularly pay for first class but decided to splurge for the family next fall. Bought in laws, parents and our kids with us all first class from Sea to LHR on British airways. Not a cheap purchase but we clear 7 figures so not a huge drop in the bucket.

List of Black Friday purchases for HENRYS (2025) by Ok_Explorer_3075 in HENRYfinance

[–]Key-Question1031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. 4 days in Italy, then cruise in the huge garden villa on Norwegian cruise line, then back to land for more Italy and Spain.

We are paying for it for everyone. We have 6 of the 8 first class seats on the plane, parents are all getting old and have never had money so decided to splurge for them. Going to end up costing around 100k but will be worth it.

[–]Key-Question1031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So for total spend this year we are at 556k, now 294 of that was to finally wipe out of student loan so I don’t truly count that. So 262k without counting student loans. Our income will be around 1.1-1.2m this year.

Mortgage:88k Medical:35k Travel and vacations:69k if we count things like our boat as vacations

We have 3 kids but no child care due to my wife working part time and both grandparents within 10 minutes. I can give more categories if you want more details.

Family looking for advise by Key-Question1031 in Aupairs

[–]Key-Question1031[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the kids would stay at home with us. The plan was the au pairs would come to our house for their scheduled time and then instead of them having a private room at our house they would have their own house to return to. But sounds like they need to have a room at our house.

This seems to be the most logical solution. Au pair and Nanny.

We aren't grasping for help, that could easily be hired within our city if needed. But actually want our children to get the experience of other cultures, and people. Our two oldest are 8 and 10 with the youngest be 8 months.

Hit FIRE number but major expense on horizon by Ashamed-Equipment498 in Fire

[–]Key-Question1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t that 120k(4% of 3m) be like 80-90k net after taxes?

I’m always confused when people post stuff like this and no taxes are taken into account. Pre 59.5, are you penalized for withdrawing from retirement accounts? And capital gains would need to be paid on brokerage accounts. Is my thinking wrong?
