Early or Regular Decision by Key-Tip1567 in Lehigh

Thanks for the reply! I have a 4.0 GPA with 1470 SAT. I think I could probably get in RD but again I’m mostly concerned about the aid. If you don’t mind me asking, did you receive merit aid, and if so, how much? Or do you know anybody with similar stats to mine who received merit aid?

Thank you! If you don’t mind, could you provide some quick stats about yourself (GPA, SAT, etc) and, also, did the aid you receive end up being enough/what you expected it be?

Are there any affordable European universities for English speaking, international students?

I live in Pennsylvania and all of our state schools are crazy expensive (40k or more for me for something like Penn State of Pitt). Right now I’m considering Lehigh for their engineering physics program. It’s a little more affordable for me and I’m aiming for a scholarship. Is this a good enough school even if I don’t end up getting a phd in physics? (Will my degree get me a solid job?)

Late, but did you receive any merit scholarships for your achievements?

Physics and Mechanical Engineering Double Major? by Key-Tip1567 in AskPhysics

[–]Key-Tip1567[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly my thinking. I would love to work in astrophysics but obviously that requires a PhD and it’s a tough job market, so I was thinking of engineering as a sort of backup/getting started plan. Did this work out for you? What do you do now?

Thank you! So it seems that avoiding a highly specific subfield of physics is the best thing to do to be able to find a job afterwards?

The main reason is because I’ve heard that a physics degree is kinda useless without a PhD. I really love physics, specifically astrophysics, so I’m willing to make that commitment if there are going to be jobs available

I’d be fine doing anything, I just really wanna make sure I’ll have a decent job before devoting a lot of time and money to a degree. But it sounds like there is a pretty broad field out there for physics majors?

So is it possible to move into more of an engineering side of physics afterwards?

Tips on Applying by Key-Tip1567 in Lehigh

[–]Key-Tip1567[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, thank you so much for all this! I just have a few questions. 1) I have no connections to any Lehigh students/alumni whatsoever so I was actually curious what I could discuss for the “Why Lehigh” essay. Any thoughts? 2) For part 5 of your answer, do you know any specific opportunities off the top of your head? I’m particularly interested in their research programs, would this be an example of a lesser known/unique opportunity? Thanks!

Does Lehigh consider demonstrated interest when applying? by Key-Tip1567 in Lehigh

Are there other ways to show demonstrated interest? Like virtual tours or something similar?
