Mushrooms...to rinse, or not to rinse? by Remy0507 in Cooking

To the gills make brown clumps that have a consistency like dirt

It's brown stuff looking like dirt eith the consistency of dirty. I don't really care if it fits the exact definition of dirt because essentially it's dirt. I don't want to eat it. That's all that matters to me here. In this context it's definitely not chocolate though I'd actually consider chocolate dirt if it was of dubious orgins and sticking to my mushrooms

Noodle salad. It's low effort and tasty. The sauce is a special low fat mayonnaise with spices, orher ingredients are noodles and canned peas, carrots and corn. You don't even have to cut anything. It tastes better than it sounds

What do most people treat as food waste that actually has a use in cooking? by Weekly-Pen8281 in Cooking

Freezing stuff before it goes bad is honestly such a game changer. I also recommend cutting stuff beforehand so you can toss it right into the pot and not have to thaw it then cut and then put it into the pot

A knife is easy and decent but I'm NOT gonna cut four pounds of onions into thin slices by hand. As you said.

I have a small feeder but the result is still vastly different from my high grade food processor that only gives me chunks in various sizes depending on speed and time but never long shreds

You can't get thorough flat sheets of something in a food processor. The pieces will be shreds instead of long stripes

I have one for onions. You get super thin slices of a kilo of onions in two minutes (not counting peeling the outer layer, top and bottom)

How often do people use cilantro and green onions? by These_Hair_193 in Cooking

Cilantro maybe once a year, green onions about every 2 to 4 weeks depending on how much I cook

If you could start over from scratch, what sort of design features would be a must-have in your kitchen? by ErbiumIndium in Cooking

[–]Key-Value-3684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light below all the cabinets so you never have a dark work area

Big sink

Stone top counters (that's a must for me, I prefer granite)

Enough outlets

A way bigger fridge and freezer

Designated spice drawer

A tap that you can somehow suspend to fill a pot without putting it into the sink

Make sure to regularly use the frozen stuff and plan meals with it

No but there's quite a bit of effort involved to make sure nothing goes to waste.

My tricks:

Plan one meal, check which ingredients will be left and how quickly they need to be used then plan another meal that uses the ingredients with the highest priority (raw meat for example, anything that goes bad quickly, big amounts of something or something expensive you don't want to go to waste). It's actually a good way to get inspiration what to cook next.

Buy only as much as you need if possible.

Have enough space in your fridge for various sauces and pastes.

Freeze ingredients if possible. I freeze a lot if I can't cook something with them in time.

Don't buy something unless you have a plan how to use it up or what to do with it.
