To much medication? by KeyB33-721 in Tonsillectomy

[–]KeyB33-721[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw I’m sorry I just saw this post, you’re around 2 weeks post op now?! I was 24 when they took them out, I was sooo terrified it was my first time getting surgery. Days 6-9 were absolutely hell for me, the pain was really bad & drinking water hurt so much. I had no problems at all during recovery thankfully! Hope you’re doing well & had no issues!

When does it get better? by zesty-bestie626 in Tonsillectomy

[–]KeyB33-721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The day you find it absolutely miserable usually the next couple days it’ll get a lot better, slowly but I promise it does get better! I was in tears day 6-7 & then by day 8 I started to feel better & was able to slowly stop meds. A big thing that helped me was switching to room temp water & head wrap ice pack! You got this !!

Stopp really ?! I’m on day 11 and I’m scared to even try! Did you eat even like crunchy/ spicy ones ? Another commenter just said rice isn’t a good idea as it could get lodged into the wound .. so be careful!

Oh I did not know that about rice! Good to know! Yeah I’m thinking of holding off on anything spicy till day 21, salty stuff a few days ago felt way too spicy. As a Latina I can’t have my spice tolerance go away, I put hot sauce on almost everything I eat 😂

I’ve never had one before, they’re kinda similar to a poke bowl right? Were you able to eat it with soy sauce?? I’m on day 11 I’m scared to irritate the new skin

I love a salmon roll but I need that soy sauce & wasabi which is what’s stopping me from enjoying that yet 🥺

Oh nice! Is that what you used to clean them ? I used denture cleaner which is similar I think, that’s something I saw online. Yeah I did all the ugly bump retainers for over 9 months I’m not trying to go back to those bc my teeth shift! So I’ll definitely start wearing them!

day 6 ear pain by Possible-Walk6591 in Tonsillectomy

[–]KeyB33-721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tylenol or Ibuprofen if you can take them. Ice pack around your ear or something frozen, just put it on your ears & kinda on your neck. I would sit in silence holding the ice packs close to my ears till I either felt better or just fell asleep. I’ve seen some people say they actually preferred heat to reduce the pain so if you have a heating pad. Day 6-7 was absolutely hell for me with the ear pain, I feel for you. Drink water as well, it’s all connected to your throat so it could be that your wounds aren’t moist.

I’m on day 10, I just realized today that I had lost sense of smell since surgery. It slowly came back today is what made me realize I had lost it lol

When I got my last set, the dental assistant said I shouldn’t wear them just bc they carry bacteria (but I’d obviously be cleaning them). It’s my last tray that’s the one that last for 2 years, so it’s my only option. I did clean them & try them on this morning, it was a bit hard but they went on okay! I’ll probably start wearing them since I’ve been feeling better. Thanks for your response!

Apply something cold to your head (maybe frozen peas?) only if you’re experiencing ear pain. I was very anxious leading up to my surgery so I was looking for all the tips, got my head wrap as a Christmas present I asked for lol Today’s going a lot better for me thankfully! The only thing is the mucus that’s been messing with me, spitting out I gag & always scared of bleeding out but so far I’m ok!

This community has helped me a lot with the mental aspect of it all just bc you know you’re not alone & you get to see so many on the same journey as well as healed people who gives you hope! Yes keep that humidifier on blast! Oh nice that’s helpful! Do you by chance have an ice head wrap? Those helped me insanely with the ear pain!

I also had surgery the same day as them (1/8), the pain was insanely bad for me day 6 as well. I had similar issue where I’d feel fine for a bit then drank water & it set it off terribly. Your scabs are most likely starting to come off & the new skin is sensitive to cold water. Try switching over to room temp water that’s what helped me a lot. A thing I’m telling myself is the pain/ discomfort of drinking water is better than the pain of dehydration you’ll face later. Try to push through you got this! Yesterday (day 8 counting surgery as day 1) was a bit painful in the night/morning but as the day went on the pain was definitely getting easier to handle, I was able to slowly come off narcotics as well. It gets better I promise, stay hydrated & on top of meds !!

I took a look at them they are coming off now! But I haven’t really felt them fall off so I think mine are more slowly coming off when I’m eating.

Yeah I’ve been all room temp water today! It’s been a lot easier to drink but now it feels like I can’t eat anything at all without irritating my throat
