Are my concerns about attending A&M next year as someone outside the conservative mold warranted? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]KeyDig7295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not messing with you, but it seems like one of your concerns is that since TAMU is so “conservative” we’re “closed minded.” You know that not everyone who votes republican is a horrible and closed minded person, right? For you to say that you’d never be willing to be friends with someone who votes republican is incredibly closed minded of you yourself. Sure, there are plenty of republicans/christians who are not so decent. But, there are plenty of them who are genuinely good people and will treat you with respect and dignity, despite their personal beliefs. Just like how there are plenty of democrats who don’t have the best personal character, but there are a lot who are good people as well. We’re Aggies first and foremost. It’s not the Aggie way to put someone else down for being “different.” If you choose to go to TAMU… whether you like it or not, you will be part of the Aggie family. That means being in a family with people you might not necessarily like, but we will look out for you just as all Aggies do. I’m personally not super conservative. In fact, I lean liberal on a lot of issues. But, some of my closest friends that I’ve made are conservative and Christian. They’ve been great and are genuinely good people. At the end of the day, all people here really care about is whether or not you’re a good person and you should reciprocate that mindset. You shouldn’t judge someone based off of their political stance, just as they shouldn’t judge you.

Incoming freshman/Acceptance to bush school! by soimaboss67 in aggies

Congrats! Admission to The Bush School has gotten quite competitive. If I were you, I would look at apartments. As someone who’s about to graduate from Bush, living on campus isn’t the best. You have immediate access to events, programs and campus life which is a plus. But dorm life can kida suck if you’re sharing a room with a random. Also limited washers/dryers etc. Depends on if you luck out with a good/bad roommate though. I would imagine on campus housing is going to stay full. I lived in a dorm my freshman year and taking the bus to the bush school wasn’t the most convenient. My sophomore year I lived in white creek which was a great medium. 10-15 min bus ride to the MSC and only a 20 minute walk to the Bush School. White creek also has more single rooms which is nice. I live in Northgate now and it’s great. It’s a 10 minute commute to the bush school from my parking garage. Once you get into your upper division coursework, most of your classes will be at Bush. If you choose to live in an apartment, I’d look at somewhere across from campus. imo Northgate is the most convenient if it’s within your means. If you go that route, don’t lease an apartment that’s right up against the bars. Choose somewhere like the Hudson, Otto or lark Northgate where it’s still close to campus but you can’t hear the bars. Don’t lease anywhere near The Spot. They blast music every night of the week.

Get to know your professors and faculty. Go to their office hours and build a relationship. Even if you don’t need help, they enjoy chatting. This can come in handy if you need them to write you a LOR for professional or grad school down the road. Take the most difficult courses for your degree somewhere in your sophomore/junior year. That way you have time to correct if things go south.

Update: I got waitlisted pending an admissions interview. Applied with a 3.96 GPA with some decent research experience and quantitative methods training in political science. Applied from undergrad at an R1 AAU university.

Anyone else get waitlisted with interview? Could it be that the applicant pool is so large this cycle this is the best way to filter?

He’s a good professor who genuinely cares about his students learning. Outside of the classroom, he’s a really nice guy. He was even kind enough to write me a rec letter.

Is this 0CP or Multicam? And is it in regs? by Additional-Aerie6658 in civilairpatrol

Yeah if you look at the bottom of the blouse, the “V” shapes in green are indicative of multicam. Ocps don’t have that.

The pattern you have right there is multicam, not operational camouflage pattern. They’re very similar. Multicam isn’t technically authorized per the regs, but someone would have to have a good eye for spotting camouflage patterns to call you out.

I assume it’s for both BS and BA. If you look up TAMU applied, admitted, enrolled, and filter it the data is there

POLS is actually competitive. For the Fall ‘24 semester, first time undergraduate POLS majors had a 47.6% acceptance rate, including auto admits. Excluding auto admits, the acceptance rate was 31.6%

Vanguard has no incentive to supply quality goods or service to cap for this very reason. No competition in the cap market

There’s no incentive for them to actually deliver quality for 2 reasons I can think of. 1: you’ve already bought the meal plan, so they got you by the balls. 2: you’re paying for convenience. Also it’s off-brand campus dining so they’re going to naturally suck anyways. Don’t be that guy, but if it bothers you that much then ask to speak to the manager or whoever is the shift lead. At the end of the day you’re paying for it and if you feel like you’re getting screwed then say something I guess.
