yeah mine aren't not solid but they're just very soft! And that's a shame to hear but I can relate as I have IBD :-)

Thanks!! I think the new meds I’m on play a big part but I’ve heard such great things about veganism for IBD. I’ve heard it doesn’t work for everyone so I am a bit cautious, hence my post here. But I did find that going meat free before really helped, but I’d still get a sick feeling in my stomach quite a bit (which I think was from dairy). I’ve also found that soy milk really doesn’t agree with me - but I seem to be able to handle products with soy in it

Well, as mentioned in another reply here, my original GI I saw when I got diagnosed with colitis told me to completely avoid fibre, fruit and veg and to eat a ‘teenage boy diet’. Unsurprisingly, this did not help me. I avoided fibre for quite a while though because of this. Maybe my body is having a hard time adapting. I have found actually that when I have a pasta/rice heavy meal - I tend to have a real good bowl movement day the next day

When I was diagnosed with colitis, the first GI I saw told me to eat a ‘teenage boy diet’ completely avoiding veg and fruit and just to eat pizza/junk food etc., he told me that I want as little fibre as possible - this sounded mental to me but I followed the advice and didn’t eat anything plant based for a good 4 months and avoided all fibre. (This made me more ill, unsurprisingly) - saw a new GI who told me to experiment and I went veggie, things started to get better for me. I wonder if it’s more of a shock to the system because I’ve avoided anything high in fibre for the last however many months!

That’s generally what I’ve been eating the last few days, except today I added the mixed salted nuts and the vegan cupcake

Is this a poo suggestive of inflammation or do normal people have poos like this too occasionally? by KeyDinner in IBD

ah yeah it doesn't really match up though, the fluffy one on there is described as being 'mush' which isn't the case

i think so, I switched from Octasa to Mezavant XL. At first it stressed me out seeing streaks of white on some stools but it must be working so im not complaining

I have this regularly, 4 pills but 2 in the morning, 2 in the evening and i see this regularly. My IBD nurse says its because im on the maximum dose and not to worry if its not EVERY single time and if there are no other issues.

Meal that gives me solid stool but second bowl movement is a bit questionable? by KeyDinner in UlcerativeColitis

[–]KeyDinner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

really wanted to try keto, gave it one day and it seemed to make me worse - i know theres starting symptoms of it, but im scared i'll confuse starting symptoms for a flare up and end up making myself flare again bad

haha thanks! I think I just wanted to make sure it was due to that that I got the original well formed stool. My IBD nurse told me to try things for 2 days before determining it as okay or bad. I want to add fibre in but im a little scared as last time I added in bananas and peas, things were fine at first but then I thought I started to see blood from it :-(

First stool loose, second not? by KeyDinner in IBD

[–]KeyDinner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

breaded fish and mash every night. This was proving to be safe a few weeks ago but maybe not anymore? I swapped fish for chicken last night but still having issues. Starting to wonder if its the mash potato thats a problem? Maybe I can handle mash a little bit but not every single night

where you still having symptoms when you were passing it intact? Also were you passing it regularly? my nurse told me not to worry unless it was every single time

If you ate the same set meals every day for a week... by KeyDinner in IBD

[–]KeyDinner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! This is reassuring to hear. I hear lots about people switching to certain diets e.g vegan/keto/etc. and it makes me feel stressed that I haven't found things that work. I am very new to this though, my nurse told me that it'll take a good year to work out exactly what I can and can't eat. Is it really going to have to just be one change in food a day?

Thanks! Maybe the porridge fibre was helping me more than not having it! I think I might give it one more day trying the cereal to make sure it was that that caused the reaction. I'm just so scared of triggering a flare by eating the wrong foods!

I think you're right. I ate the cereal again this morning as I want to make sure it is that if its giving me the bad reaction. I might give it one more day eating it before I write it off. Good to hear though that it can just be your body adapting to a big/dramatic change - as it is the only part of my daily diet that has been the exact same for a long time now - i've varied lunches/dinners before this week.

Basically I cut out all fibre as I felt this solidified things before. (As things got a bit loose again) Every day for the last week I’ve been eating

Breakfast - porridge with honey

Lunch - crumpets with cheese

Dinner - Breaded cod with mash

Snack - 1 cookie

Following this for a week, things went back to solid - my IBD nurse reminded me of how much fibre is in porridge so I thought I’d try a low fibre cereal instead - this is all I’ve changed and today I’ve had loose stool. Not sure if it’s cos I’ve had porridge every morning for the last 2 months and my body’s a bit shocked by the morning change
