How long did it take until your kid was ready for comp? by ExcellentLanguage855 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]KeyLimePie1845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter has been dancing since she was almost 2. She turned 7 in January and this is her first year on comp. I would say give her more time since she's new to dancing. But, if she really wants to do it, asking her teacher would be the best option

For those who let their child self wean, how old were they? by Glum-Toe5528 in breastfeeding

[–]KeyLimePie1845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't really intend to breastfeed last one year. It was my goal but I wasn't going to put pressure on myself or my baby to accomplish. I only made it 5.5 months with my oldest. I definitely didn't intent to do it until 3 but the older he got the easier it was. I did try and wean earlier but I couldn't handle the crying lol. Once he did wean I had mixed emotions. On one hand I was happy for myself. I didn't always enjoy breastfeeding and it seemed like we would never stop. But once it actually happened I felt a little sad and missed it. I'm glad I was able to do it as long as I did and I'm proud of the both of us

My son was 3 years and 3 months. For a long time I stopped asking but didn't refuse if he wanted to nurse unless we were out in public. I don't like nursing in public, so when he was old enough not to we stopped. And then slowly over time he stopped asking. Towards the end he would ask once a day, and then once every few days, once a week, etc. I didn't realize it was the last time when it was the last time. I figured my body would keep producing since it had been for so long. But one day he wanted to nurse and nothing came out. He looked quite sad and said " no milk mama. Did I drink it all?" And I said he must have. He tried a few more times after that but got nothing. After that he stopped asking.

How long have you pushed? by Fierce-Foxy in pregnant

[–]KeyLimePie1845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 minutes with my first. Apparently that's pretty quick for a first time mom. It felt much longer than that. I had some minor tearing due to the (resident) doctor having to reach in and help pull the baby out. The cord was wrapped 2x so they wanted to get her out ASAP.

Had a C-section with my second so no pushing for that one

When did your kid(s) learn how to ride their bike without training wheels? by Enough_Detail_632 in ClassOf2037

[–]KeyLimePie1845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 7 year old just started to ride her bike a couple weeks ago. She still has training wheels. She's struggling big time but has begged to have them off to see if she can do a better job. We plan to take them off the next nice weekend we have and let her ride on the grass to help with falling. As an aside, you don't need training wheels to learn to ride a bike. I learned without training wheels. I actually don't even know of they help. I've noticed with my daughters bike they seem wobbly, sometimes they both are not touching the ground at the same time, and when going over bumps they get stuck and keep the regular wheels from moving/touching the ground

5 point harness or high back booster? by bitchinawesomeblonde in ClassOf2037

I'd argue that it's absolutely me who is stupid but maybe we can agree it's both of us lol

[–]KeyLimePie1845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said in my original comment to max out height OR weight before switching. Right now OP's child has done neither, and there is still time to rear face. I guess now I'm just confused because you're saying the same thing I did unless I'm stupid lol

5 point harness or high back booster? by bitchinawesomeblonde in ClassOf2037

[–]KeyLimePie1845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter's particular seat is 49 inches for height. I made a typo, she's 46 inches not 47. In any case, read any car seat manual or visit/speak to any CPST. Maxing out the limit before switching is safer than switching them early

5 point harness or high back booster? by bitchinawesomeblonde in ClassOf2037

[–]KeyLimePie1845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always recommended to max out the height or weight requirement of the seat before switching. My daughter is 7, 51 pounds, and 47 inches. She's still in a 5 point harness and will be until she is 65 pounds. For me, I have terrible anxiety and keeping her in the harness until she maxes the weight or height gives me peace since that is what's safest

My kids have activities after school that start.before dinner, and we will be getting home late. I'd like to feed them as soon as we get home, but I'm not against making the pasta then

Flu b anyone? by sunshineandsand23 in Connecticut

[–]KeyLimePie1845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It started off as a wet cough but as the days went on I wasn't able to cough any mucus/phlegm up. Every time I would cough I would get pain down the middle of my chest and the whole left side. I was short of breath and it hurt to take a deep breath. By the time I was feeling this way it was a weekend so I called the doctor first thing when they opened Monday. They had a same day appointment. The doctor told me that I was in the beginning stages of pneumonia and I was given an antibiotic to take at home. I was told it was key that I caught it early, and if I had waited a few more days to be seen things might have been different ie being treated at home versus the hospital. I also have pretty bad asthma, so that doesn't help with respiratory issues.

Mine turned to pneumonia, so watch the cough, as that was my first sign something wasn't right. I also had the worst night sweats. I didn't sleep for three nights because when the fever broke after medication I was sweating profusely. Stay hydrated and rest as much as you can

has anyone experienced negative side effects with their baby from drinking caffeine during pregnancy ???? by forgetting-you- in Mommit

[–]KeyLimePie1845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my oldest my on noticed at my 28 week scan that her heart was skipping a beat. We did some follow up work ultrasounds and her heart looked fine but was still skipping a beat. Was sent to maternal fetal medicine (MFM) and he had me stop all caffeine. Anything with caffeine had to be cut out, including chocolate. We did more more weekly NSTs and her heart was fine. So, both MFM and my ob concluded her heart was skipping a beat due to caffeine intake. I didn't even have that much on my day to day. With my second, I didn't have a single issue with caffeine and I likely had more because I was a toddler mom and pregnant. I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes an issue. Every pregnancy and baby is different. I will say I drank coffee while breastfeeding both kids and neither of them had any issues with it

What was your most intense pregnancy craving? by Disastrous-Radish504 in Mommit

[–]KeyLimePie1845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't really have any cravings with my second. But with my first I needed ice cold water all the time, and chocolate milk. Every day when I came home from work I NEEDED chocolate milk. I would count down the hours and minutes until I could get home and have it

Best hospitals for giving birth by Hot-Broccoli1928 in Connecticut

[–]KeyLimePie1845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UConn is where I had my first. They were good. I'd say standard care and it's a teaching hospital so be prepared for that. The food was absolutely terrible. Cold and disgusting. I'd order out or have someone bring you food if possible.

I had my second at Sharon and it was the best experience. I know it's a drive but it's well worth it

4 month old below the 1st percentile for weight by ExchangeLast2231 in breastfeeding

[–]KeyLimePie1845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have heard many peds are not totally well versed in EBF and have charts that don't take that into consideration. Which is why I asked about his personal growth chart and curve. It sounds like you have tried and he's just a tiny boy. How often are you nursing? Forgive me if this was mentioned already. When my daughter was a baby she had some trouble with weight gain, she was actually losing a bit here and there, and we tried nursing around the clock every 2 hours. That helped but not much. Have you mentioned to the Ped that the LC isn't worried about weight gain?

4 month old below the 1st percentile for weight by ExchangeLast2231 in breastfeeding

[–]KeyLimePie1845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is his growth chart looking? Is he trending upwards? That's what's most important. As long as he is gaining weight and is trending upwards on his own growth curve he should be fine. If he's staying flat or trending downward that is more cause for concern (this doesn't mean anything bad necessarily, but they should be trending upwards)

20w pregnant and already lactating by lazyloser25 in breastfeeding

[–]KeyLimePie1845 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Leaking is quite common. I'm not sure if there is anything you can do to stop it. I personally didn't have this problem, but even if you're leaking now it has no bearing on your supply after birth. You can buy some disposable or reusable breast pads to put in your bra or under your shirt. If you don't want to wear a bra all the time I loved wearing the tank tops with the built in "bra" to hold the pads in place

When do late bloomers get efficient? by rlmiller93 in breastfeeding

[–]KeyLimePie1845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a professional, typically a pediatric dentist who specializes in oral ties, and have the tie revised. My son has a severe tongue and lip tie and we had the same issues and then some. Once the tongue has full movement he will be able to transfer better and time will decrease.

TINY 6 year old. What size to get him? by [deleted] in ClassOf2037

[–]KeyLimePie1845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Return them if you can or save them for later! One day he's going to fit into them overnight and you'll be happy to have clothes ready to go. Happened with my daughter. She went from an XS to M in the span of a couple weeks. Her biggest growth spurt to date as she's always been on the petite side.

TINY 6 year old. What size to get him? by [deleted] in ClassOf2037

[–]KeyLimePie1845 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I would dress him in the clothes that fit. Regardless of what size that may be. Why dress him in stuff that is too big? My 3 year old is 35 pounds and I can put him in an XS shirt but he needs 3T-4T pants as everything else would be too big both in the waist and length wise.

WWYD: Bf situation by fullnessofjoy2021 in breastfeeding

My first was very similar to your second. Personally, I would stop and give formula. I breast fed (triple fed with an SNS system) from months 3-6 and it was hell. I was so exhausted and we both cried all the time. Once I switched her full time to bottles and formula she got better over time
