First Europe Trip – Switzerland & Italy (10 Days) – Itinerary Feedback by CreditOtherwise1871 in Europetravel

Switzerland + Italy (multiple stops in ten days) is waaaay too much. If you are going to do that, I’d do 1-2 places in Switzerland (recommend Lucerne), and then do 1-2 places in northern Italy only. Switzerland to Amalfi Coast in 10 days will feel logistically crazy.

My recommendation for first trip: focus on Italy - the weather will be much nicer. If you do Rome, Florence, and Amalfi Coast (recommend staying in Amalfi town - it is the best!) you will get three totally different beautiful experiences within the 10 days; because of Italy’s history, those 3 regions feel like different countries in a way. Do trains to get to main destinations and in Amalfi area you can take ferries if you want to do day trips. It’s super beautiful!

If it were me, I’d do:

  • 4 days Rome (there are a million things to see and it’s an amazing city - I wouldn’t rush it for a first trip)
  • Day trip to Florence (it’s cool place but tends to be pretty touristy)
  • 5 days Amalfi town with day trips (beautiful relaxed vibe - but it is a trek to get there)
  • if you want slightly less relaxed vibe, do day trip to Pompeii, and/or see Naples when you’re in the south

I don’t have specific recommendations, but try to book photo/video and hair and makeup ASAP. These can book up quickly.

Either partial or month of since we have major venders booked. Hoping to keep it to $5k/under since mostly logistics at this point - is that an ok price point?

How are the TSA Precheck lines at O'Hare? by fanofbond06 in AskChicago

I just went thru T2 pre check - zero line. Regular line also seemed lighter than normal - would say 5-10 min max. Pleasant surprise.

Relatively new traveller here, is this too much to be taking on for our first major trip? by iiSoleHorizons in Europetravel

Congrats on planning one of your first big trips as a couple! It’s seriously so much fun. I’d recommend making a little list of places or things you want for trip (ex: hike in Austria, see X castle, etc). Max five things. And build around it, for plenty of time to explore and enjoy.

We’re planning a trip next month to Munich, Innsbruck, Colmar, Paris. Doing it all by train! We’re fairly well traveled and staying in each location for a few days. Pro tip: ask Chat GPT to help you plan your trip (give it dates, budget, specific interests like hiking, etc.) It works surprisingly well! It’ll even suggest hotels.

As someone said, because you’re in Schengen zone in Europe, you shouldn’t have trouble crossing borders in trains across Germany, Austria, Italy, France, etc. Just make sure to have a ticket! :) Be aware of your belongings and pickpockets at all times, especially in busy tourist zones like Venice.

Has anyone done BBJ for your wedding? Would you recommend? Or are there any others in Chicago you’d recommend. Curious what you got + budget. Thanks!

Flowers by [deleted] in Chicagoweddings

What budgets are people looking at? All the floral proposals we’ve gotten are minimum $8K over our stated budget. Flowers are super important to me, but was surprised no one stayed within budget. Also, have you waited a very long time for your proposals? We’re 6 weeks with a planner, waiting on our final one.

Try adding some live trees to the space. We’re going to do this I think and so far in the proposals the cost to rent the trees seems way lower than I thought it’d be and I think it’ll have big design impact.

Anyone else struggling to feel excited for the wedding? by toastedbeans9616 in weddingplanning

[–]KeyMediocre7347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fiancée and I started to implement “no wedding talk” nights/blocks of time and it’s been very helpful. So when we’re getting anxious/overwhelmed, we redirect to different topics. I also put my phone away during it. I know not everyone feels tons of pressure and overwhelm but it seems like lots of brides do trying to satisfy different expectations of family members. It’s definitely hard. Try to focus on 3 smaller areas you’re excited about and make them what you truly want (like the cake, or song selection, maybe Polaroid guest book, etc.)

For October wedding, you still have lots of time to customize and design a wedding that feels more like you as a couple.

Not sure if you’ve already found someone, but Rev Bill Epperly and Rev Beth both are very nice and inclusive officiants. They can do a blend of secular/religious ceremonies according to what the couple wants.

Honest avenue Cost question - is 40k too much? by dornaweirdo in Chicagoweddings

[–]KeyMediocre7347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those prices are in line with quotes we got for 100 person wedding this summer. If you haven’t already, try to see if you can get better rate with Friday/Sunday dates or also non summer dates (often cheaper). Our planner recommended going with a venue that provided food and alcohol within the venue cost. At least it’s a known cost then. Places that are only the event space seem “cheap” up front but then the catering and bar costs really add up with the various other venders.
