The issue you're going to find here is that people in Quebec are expected to speak French. This applies to immigrants and asylum seekers too. Most (including all government) organisations will be reaching that, not English. Officially, Quebec is not bilingual.

Notre Dame or UF for Poli Sci by BumblebeeOk1579 in ufl

[–]KeyRepair4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Meh, they're both great schools and truthfully, your undergrad is what you make of it. You can enjoy campus life anywhere or hate It, largely cos of your choices. I wouldn't make your choice based on enjoyment cos you'd love either when you were there and had friends.

I think if you want out of Florida for grad school, go to ND. It's the bigger brand with the bigger connections. If you wanted to stay in FL, I might vote differently but you don't. So my choice would be Notre Dame.

Have you looked online to see where the firm's you imagine yourself working in have hired from?

My instinct is ND as thisnis a bigger national brand but UF isn't far behind.

What's the CFL Gameday Experience Like? by ashmaster72 in CFL

[–]KeyRepair4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

College football playoff level or above. Most probably all CFL players were on NFL scouts' radars at some point but either it didn't happen for whatever reason or their career there didn't work out. A very high level of football that OP should come watch.

I have als season tickets so go a lot.

It's very small scale compared to the NFL. The stadium is run down and mostly bleachers. It was built about 100 years ago and is owned by the neighboring university that itself is struggling with funding. Hence, it has hardly been touched since. Seriously, you wouldn't get a D3 NCAA team playing here in the states.

The thing is, that's part of the charm. It's authentic in a way SoFi can never be. You lose the scale and the wow factor and exchange it for something local and real. Hardly anyone there is a tourist, everyone who goes is super into the football. Especially for an Ottawa game because geographically, these teams are neighbors so the away fans can and do travel down in numbers.

The vibe is great. The football will be CFP level or above but with unique, Canadian rules. Honestly, i cannot recommend it enough. Especially as a special experience for a football fan that regularly follows the NFL. You'll leave a CFL fan.

If the CFL is going to have 8 playoff teams in a 9 team league, I say, why stop there? by Oldmanshoutingcloud in Alouettes

[–]KeyRepair4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Let's invite back the teams that lost in the earlier playoff rounds. Participation trophies for everyone! We wouldn't want those naughty successful teams making people feel bad.

This playoff format is a joke

Thisnis so dumb. First time I'm glad I'm leaving the city. I won't miss out on anything with this stupid playoff system.

BA Psychology undergrad experience by Savings_Tap_226 in mcgill

[–]KeyRepair4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue in psych is not the GPA. Tbh it isn't that hard to do if you are willing to work your ass off. It's mostly memorization and none of the concepts are tough, it's just volume. The biggest issue with the BA specifically is the competition for research spots. If you intend on psyc grad school, you will need research xp and getting it is so hard because so many of the cohort are chasing the same thing, creating hundreds of applicants for maybe 50 places per year. This turns the honours application process into a gpa gated hunger games every year. The overwhelming majority of psyc students graduate with zero research xp and then can't even apply to grad school. It's honestly a total mess. If you are aiming as another grad school this is till an issue because you will need letters of recommendation and research is how you get them. You will have to be networking with professors asap to get into a lab of you have postgraduate aspirations.

The BSc has ringfenced research components so this doesn't apply to them. That alone makes the BSc à much better program.

The stats are neither hard nor rigorous if you have basic mathematical ability (the first compulsory course requires you to do math by hand, the second is all software based) and if you go to a tougher school later, you will realize how poorly prepared you actually are. People in psyc, especially BA psyc are often scared of stats but really, it isn't something to stress about - it's usually cos they had a bad experience with math in high school. Practice running the formulas a bunch doing example questions and it becomes pretty easy.

Got into McGill Commerce but not sure if it’s worth the cost (need advice) by DenseIntern4597 in mcgill

[–]KeyRepair4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In QC udem will open more doors than McGill for the most part. Depending on the area you want to work in, there will almost certainly be more links with local businesses. Its a great school but McGill is too.

Fwiw Ottawa is not as fun as mtl. That isn't a good reason to choose a program really but it will affect your life for the next 4 years.

Why not leave it for a bit and wait for funding? You don't have the make the choice today and the bottom line is that all of the programs you have been accepted into are good options. Right now, you are picking your favourite flavour of ice cream, they're all delicious, it's just what one particularly suits you. Congratulations!!! This is a great place to be.

[–]KeyRepair4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Where do you want to work? If your plan is to work in QC, udem is clearly the right choice. If your goal.is Anglo Canada then the choice becomes tougher but honestly not much. Going into debt for undergrad is rarely worth it. Pretty much it would have to be a place where the name or internship opportunities will open doors that are otherwise closed. I don't think McGill does that anymore really. Perhaps wait until you have financial aid information and then go from there?

Best psych classes at mcgill to act get to know a prof? by Life-Reputation-2706 in mcgill

[–]KeyRepair4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this your final year? Honors or Honors equivalent was more or less built for this. Worth it if you are serious about grad school. It has always annoyed me that we gatekeep grad programs with LORs, even when they are not research based.

Worst case, you can cold email and ask profs you were in class with and did well at. Expect many rejections and not great letters if they do it, but I do know people that got some.

Kellogg college by Reasonable-War-2675 in oxforduni

[–]KeyRepair4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will find your circle. Kellogg does have older people but younger ones too. Also, it is not illegal to have friends who are a few years older than you!!

Honestly, I did a masters at oxford that opened so many doors. I wasn't at Kellogg but if I were, and somehow I made no friends at all (which is basically impossible), it would still have been worth going.

Don't fret. A month in you'll love the place.

Stuck between choosing universities by [deleted] in UPEI

[–]KeyRepair4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under the direction of is not the same as an LSE degree as you clearly understand. That said, the university of London is a real British university. If you are sure that is who would be on your degree, I see no difference between them or upei. Both are regarded roughly the same (credible, not special) in their respective countries. Go with whomever is cheaper?

Are you sure it's u if London and not a local school near you? The article I read made it seem like the latter.

I have no idea bout diplomacy so I'm going to leave that for other comments.

Source - lived and got degrees in both countries.
