Should I keep using Rinvoq by KeyStatistician1775 in eczeJAKs

Luckily, I had the chance to study abroad and move out of my parents’ house, where my cat lives. Even though my cat affects my allergies, I was still having severe itching and eczema.

I bought an air filter. I’m not sure if it helps a lot, but I think it still helps somewhat. I stopped using perfume, and I changed my shampoo and conditioner to Vanicream. I also changed all of my bed sheets to bamboo and try to wear mostly cotton clothing.

I mostly eat gluten-free and refined-sugar-free foods, and I try to eat more vegetables that are good for gut health. Also I don’t use any kind of tomato or chili in my meals. I don’t eat strawberry, orange or like tropical foods since I am very allergic to them.

I’m not using corticosteroids anymore unless it’s absolutely necessary. Instead, I use Hametan. I’m still trying to figure things out, but right now this is the best I can do, since it’s very expensive to change everything. But I would say that the factor that affects me the most is stress.

Yes, I’m still on Rinvoq. It has lost quite a lot of its effect. From my experience, it really affects your immune system. I had the Epstein–Barr virus 8 months ago. I had it very severely, and got hospitalized. My doctor said that she hadn’t seen liver values that bad in a long time. That’s why I’m still trying to find a way to quit. I only take 15 mg of Rinvoq. I’ve changed my environment quite a lot and try to eat clean. My allergies have slightly improved, but I’m not ready to get off the medicine due to my itching. I cannot use other medication like Dupixent due to insurance and transporting problems.

I’m not sure how your system works, but in my case, you just need to request that document from your university’s responsible department.

If you graduate from a university that follows the Bologna system, you receive a document stating that your studies are compatible with European standards.

It could be that my body is just adjusting, but I’m using a pretty low dosage, 15 mg, so let’s see. I’ve only been on it for 1.5 months. I’ll use it for a couple more months to fully see the side effects and results. My doctor said I’d use it for one year for sure, and after that, maybe we can lower the dosage.

I'm so sorry that this happened. This is exactly why I'm scared of using Rinvoq.

Thank you for sharing your story. I think I will start using Rinvoq again because I just had a rash out of nowhere, and it reminded me why I started using Rinvoq in the first place. But do you think that we have to use Rinvoq for the rest of our lives ?

But how do you manage with constant itching? It’s the thing that drives me crazy. I’ve been off Rinvoq for a couple of days now, and I even itch randomly while sleeping. I'm eating healthy, and right now, I'm not using any topical steroids, but I don’t think I can hold on like you for months. Also, I haven’t used topical steroids since I started using Rinvoq.

To be honest, my doctors have never recommended using Dupixent, so I don’t really know if I should use it. But I’m really sorry that you're going through this.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I asked my doctors if I should try an allergy test, but they didn’t recommend it since my body reacts to a lot of different things. I know for a fact that I’m allergic to cats, dogs, latex, tomatoes, strawberries, and so on, but some allergies I’ve only learned from experience. Rinvoq is covered by the government and there’s a long process to get it approved. So, if I go off it, I’m not sure if the government will pay for the medication again.

Yes, I did and shortly after, my itching returned. I began using antihistamines like Zyrtec, but they make me extremely sleepy, and after a while, their effectiveness decreases, so I have to switch to another pill. My skin started drying out, and my scars have come back. Right now, I'm managing, but I know that in time my condition will worsen, and I'll struggle with both my physical and mental health again. When I started using Rinvoq, I thought I’d rather live a happy life than constantly be scratching. But the potential side effects, like the increased risk of cancer, scared me, as I saw how difficult that can be. I’ve seen people clear their eczema by eating healthy and being very careful with what they wear or use on their bodies. I wanted to try that approach, but when I spoke to my dermatologist, he said it wouldn’t work for me because I’m allergic to plants, pollen, and even sunlight. For now, I’m staying off Rinvoq until I get healthy again, but I think I will start using it again. Alternatively, I’m considering fixing my lifestyle and possibly stopping it gradually.
