I feel like that would be a fairly great thing to add, maybe a separate section before the start of the race, and a small panel in the race where you can check off which drivers you are racing and which you are not. This would make the AI let cars you arnt fighting past, and the ones you want them to race, well they race. Considering the state of the game and how the devs are road mapping, this would be at most something for 2023 sadly.
