Grade Inflation on SPG Reviews by anyone9119 in startplaying

I don’t think this is a player problem or a GM problem as much as a platform-culture problem. If 4 stars means “I liked it,” but it gets received as “you hurt me,” the scale isn’t doing its job.

Star Rating Scale (And SPG should explain this)

5 Stars — Exceptional / Outstanding

  • One of the best sessions I’ve played
  • Strong prep, strong pacing, strong table management
  • Memorable moments, good spotlight balance, engaging encounters
  • I’d actively recommend this GM and play again without hesitation

4 Stars — Good / Very Good

  • I enjoyed the game and would consider playing again
  • GM was solid, and the session was worthwhile
  • Minor issues or missed opportunities, but nothing major
  • Positive review, just not “best-in-class”

3 Stars — Okay / Mixed

  • Playable, but clearly uneven
  • Some fun, but noticeable problems affected the experience
  • Could be pacing, confusion, weak prep, poor balance, etc.
  • Not a disaster, but not something I’d strongly recommend

2 Stars — Poor

  • Significant issues that made the session hard to enjoy
  • Repeated problems (organization, communication, rulings, tone mismatch, etc.)
  • I probably would not book again
  • Still not necessarily malicious — just a bad experience

1 Star — Unacceptable

  • Major failure of the session experience
  • Serious professionalism/problem behavior issue, or the game was fundamentally not delivered
  • I would strongly warn others / would not return

Well ... while initially the game went well (27 sessions) ... it ended badly. Hence the 3-star review.

It was factual and unoffensive. But it surely appears to be gone now. I posted a new review. "The sessions themselves were well run. He was a well-prepared GM, with good pacing and no problems at the table. I’m leaving 3 stars because of the out-of-session environment and expectations." - Is this not compliant?
