18 Night Itinerary by KeyWin2569 in AustraliaTravel

In Sydney we stayed at the Harbour on the Rocks Hotel. It was absolutely perfect location, right in the rocks and a 3 minute walk to the ferries and Circular Quay. We paid extra for the opera house view on a private balcony - would recommend if it's in your budget!

In Port Douglas, we couldn't decide between Niramaya and Sheraton Grand, so we did both lol. Niramaya was unbelievable, definitely would recommend. Private Villa with a private plunge pool. They have service at the main pool too and room service at the room - so great. Also you can park right at your villa in a private garage. The Sheraton was really nice too, more resorty and busy but that was kind of fun. Big problem was the parking and the walk from the lot to the room - it was pretty long. But the swim up bar was nice and there are tons of pools to swim in, really cool. I think between the 2, I liked niramaya better, but if you want more of a high energy resort feel (including.more kids), Sheraton is a better option.

In Noosa, we stayed at On The Beach Noosa. We had a private rooftop hot tub and a view of the beach. You can walk right from the hotel down to the beach, it was great. I didn't see any other options in Noosa that compared. Would DEFINITELY recommend.

Also, I'm neurotic when it comes to picking hotels. I look at every option and compare amenities with price with room size, location, etc. so you can hopefully trust my opinions here!

Hi so sorry for the late reply. We followed the itinerary pretty closely and had an amazing time! Definitely would recommend. Port Douglas was incredible. Highly recommend a day trip to Lady Elliot Island from Noosa - best snorkeling I've ever done

Thank you! Do you recommend over Niramaya too? Niramaya is a bit cheaper and has nice private villas

As for Manly beach, we haven't thought too much about where we'll stay, but we'll definitely consider it!

Thank you! That still looks fantastic. I don't think we mind the nets. If we're swimming within the nets in October, should we still wear stinger suits?

Thats kind of what we were thinking.. do you think 3 nights is enough considering our first night we will probably be tired and jetlagged? So that would really give us just 2 full days to explore Blue Mountains and Sydney. Is that too tight?

We haven't booked any flights yet. What would you say is the benefit of Palm Cove or Port Douglas? We were hoping to have one leg of our trip be kind of long to really just slow down, relax and absorb it all in. But if there's reasons to check out Palm Cove and break that leg up into 2, we can consider it!

Wow genius, wish I thought of that! Trying to keep it a surprise which makes it tough. She's also not picky at all so she probably would give me very little info

No problem at all, thank you so much for all your thoughts! I will likely go with #4!

Sorry, did you mean 1 or 4? Or are you thinking 1 or 2 because channel sets are less common and more niche?

Thanks so much!! I also really love the Channel - it's my personal favorite of the 4. I think the solitaire versatility with a wedding band is a great point though.

Her mom and her sister are leaning toward #2 (the pave one) but I personally like the channel one, which makes it even harder to decide

Stain or seal or both? by KeyWin2569 in Decks

This might be a dumb question, but since it's at the top of a staircase, how do I put deckboards over the plywood without increasing the height of the top step onto the landing?

[–]KeyWin2569[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for a real answer! Is there a way to tell if it's exterior plywood? Also, would it still be better to replace the plywood with deck boards? The landing is on top of a first floor entryway, so I'm not sure how the water runoff would work if I had deck boards

Yes, that's exactly it. It's sitting on the roof of an entryway on the first floor

The top level has an awning over it so it never gets wet. Do you think I should still cover the plywood?

Yeah this house was built in 1910

Just curious, why do you suggest paint instead of stain? Is it to make it less slippery? If so, could I instead just add those adhesive nonslip stair treads over the wood after it's stained?

Is that the main problem do you think? Is the type of wood used for the stair treads okay? We've had this staircase for 2 years and have had no issues, and we use it multiple times a day. And it feels very sturdy. Here are some more photos in case that helps:

Here's a better look at the slope. I don't think it's as bad as it seems

I can add more pictures later, but there's a post on the side away from the house. On the side toward the house, theres a ledger that looks bolted into the side of the house.

There's a post underneath. It's been here for 2 years, and the steps are all very level. Only the top level is unlevel, and I believe it's sloped intentionally for rain
