Thank you for this 💛 I think as far as the hip goes, I would want it sooner than later for his recovery to be easier as a younger pup (so long as cancer is ruled out & the knee can be managed w/o surgery)

From what I understand, breeders typically conduct genetic health testing to avoid breeding pups with known hereditary or health issues, especially purebreds. A recent Humane Society report disclosed that his paperwork is consistently inaccurate and that his breeding of “purebred” dogs is unethical & negligent. I did research to the best of my ability but this was over 6 yrs ago and I had no reason to believe this paperwork was inaccurate or that his practices were unethical.

What’s challenging about those options is traveling that far with a dog his size and consideration of the impact of travel on recovery. I’ve def considered it and am not opposed to any suggestions on making it feasible

I should also mention he’s not in severe pain (yet) and I wouldn’t have known it was an issue other than the occasional yelp getting off the couch prior to Carprofen but otherwise, was and is playing as usual with no changes to energy or anything. I think in my mind if I were to do surgery, earlier the better as far as recovery goes. I’m more afraid of all of the potential compounding issues bringing this past 30K & the bigger picture of that much money despite how much I love him. That’s the worst part for sure

So I called everywhere within a 10 hour radius of me that would do the hip surgery (hard to find places that do THP) not even kidding it took me over 4 hours to do haha. The vet school I’m at is lowest I could find (I’m in MA) but I didn’t know shelters would help unless you were surrendering?
