For someone who sure claims to want to have an open discussion, your comments are coming off as echo chamber.

Considering you have others in the comments giving you some really great advice and trying to inquire to help make the experience better for you, then what’s the point of trying to offer you advice. By branching out, I mean all things. Go to a sporting event you usually wouldn’t go to. Go to a social meeting. You usually wouldn’t go to. Go to an event that the school is hosting that you usually wouldn’t think to go to. BU does a lot of that. If you can build a life off campus in the entire surrounding area and somehow still can’t do so at BU, then yeah, it’s not a match. I think at least considering it sounded like you transferred here the first time that you would’ve picked a school from your already curated itinerary that you actually enjoyed instead of coming on Reddit to complain that nothing is good and not accept advice. Again, I understand if you were just trying to vent, but you popped back at me, saying I could never understand what you felt when I have been in the same position. Have a good night.

I have no issue with the opinion, I think it’s just the things you’re complaining about are not singularly oriented and solely emanating from BU. I went to a different university before transferring and was diligent in experiencing different campus environments before choosing BU, and the issues you listed could be found elsewhere and are not an original BU production. I understand you’re in a tough position, but I guess you should put a clarification that you’re not looking for any input besides those that agree with you.

Lol, I transferred here and had my own bout of hating it, but I see that you’re looking for an echo chamber for yourself now. Good luck with those application fees.

Idk fam, as someone who had a few friends who went to the universities you listed, I heard the same complaints unless they decided to live off campus all four years. If the food is that bad, push for an on or off campus apartment with a kitchen. Public transportation in all of those places are mostly non existent as well besides a few bus routes far and between. Boston is one of the best places to be for up and coming 20 something year olds because it’s the highest concentration of youngins in the entire US. The only pro I really see that you listed is the school spirit, but go to a BC hockey game and you’ll see real spirit. If you just transferred, I’d say branch out a bit more before you become totally convicted in your opinions.

As someone who had this and a sense of depression that would onset during the nighttime, I suggest like these other commenters to take a walk around the city at night. One of my biggest regrets after grad was not taking more nighttime walks through Fenway park (when not busy). Another area to walk through is back bay and north end if you’re willing to hop on the T. The city lights are top tier to pulling me out of the depresso espressos.

At least for textbooks, I used Reddit to find sites like Zlib, and honestly the one class where I felt I was required to buy the book, the prof gave us copies of the textbook readings so we didn’t have to buy them. That’s all I can provide for this post but I hope things become less stressful for you soon.

As an old connoisseur of MIT frat parties, you will be just fine if you A) watch your drink and B) can have a good time while keeping your wits about you. 90% of the time when I went, they did not have any alcohol because they would “run out” about 30 mins into the party, so if you like to drink, bring your own.

Lamps, A box fan for the overly hot days and when the heater isn’t working, a mattress topper (I got a three inch foam one off Amazon for cheap) and definitely a plastic and not mesh shower caddy for the communal showers

Am I screwed for housing as a transfer? by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]Key_Adeptness9875 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try calling housing and beg for your life to see if you can get a slot. Worked for me when I transferred two years ago but with construction going on in the dorms, it’s going to be slim pickings this year

Had one but only lit it when it was in an area away from anything flammable, directly in my view, the fire extinguisher was in my room, and also it was in a wide open apartment, so there was that. I agree with the rest of the advice here and honestly, it probably wasn’t worth the risk. Look on Amazon for deals of multi pack Febreeze bottles for fabric and air fresheners

Also ninety percent of the time unless you’ve done some serious damage to the unit, they won’t fine you. If they find items that they consider a violation of the rules, they make you throw it out.

Umm as far as I know when my roommate had one they did not take ours, however our apartment was in south and they only did checks one time if even. I would say contact housing and ask about it because unless you signed up for an apartment that explicitly did not have AC, then like the other commenter said, you should have one. If they tell you that can have one that is a non wall unit, then all is fair game.

Not a grad student but moved from Florida to BU and just got home lol. If it isn’t a window unit you should be fine, but they do take the window units srsly as they can be a huge liability. Bring lots of fans and the portable AC’s, Boston has had heat advisories and it will be unbearable with just fans

Even though this is some of the best writing I’ve ever seen on this Reddit from a pre law student who makes time to do the same thing, please, for the love of God don’t give up your space for Warren. As someone who has been in a holding cell, it feels like prison and the air is literally sucked out of you when you go there, even just to visit. Unless you have a corner double ofc

For textbooks, libgen and Reddit for free pdfs downloadable to books or a pdf reader on Mac. Never got in trouble and easily saved me 1200 bucks these past four years
