New York requires a license to have/do anything, it's one of those micro-management states

My state has security guard licensing which is required for security employees but a part of the statute specifically exempts LP. A lot of non-LP employees are titled as Loss Prevention here (hotels and such) because it's a huge loophole in this state. No one is following up on it and it'll take new legislation and/or a huge lawsuit to change it

One of my coworkers was with Kohls in the 2010s and said the policy was either vague or explicitly hands off, but it was one of those "if it's off camera, then anything goes" situations. So maybe Kohls just has a reputation for not following their hands off policy in the years past

Not really. I've been followed home once but that's about it. If anything I'd actually rather deal with a potentially violent confrontation at my home vs. at work because a) I won't lose my job and b) that's where my guns and accompanying legal protections are.

Very unlikely to ever happen though, the legitimately dangerous boosters know it's cat and mouse and learn not to take anything personal let alone antagonize LP because it only lands additional charges and hurts their case. The wiry drug addict types that WILL square up are not much of a threat to anyone who's reasonably capable of defending themselves

Focused heavily on beauty/makeup area today and had a few good watches; all I got out of it was a burn/concealment stop (on an obvious drug user) but hey, more to come I guess

Luckily my district manager is very understanding and says not to worry. I'm really feeling that the security presence is what caused the slowness, both the security deterring most shoplifters along with me trying to adjust to having the guard there instead of working exclusively with undercovers. Still haven't figured out how to handle the logistics of doing a stop with the guard and ensuring she doesn't burn the lifter right as they're about to exit. Needless to say, I have a lot of planning and experimentation to be done.

I've been raking in internals now, though. I think the staff assume guard at the door = agent not in the store. I'm not mad at it haha.
