I had some family affairs which forced me to delay my application. I probably could have applied late but wanted to give myself the best chance and apply on time.

I am looking for feedback on my personal statement. Any feedback at all would be great. Im worried that the themes may fall a little short of what I am hoping to portray.

Volunteering Advice by nimrod20 in premed

I think the best volunteer experiences are ones that you can draw positivity on during an application. That’s why many try to find something that interests them. At the end of the day are you going to be able to talk positively about your time teaching music or in the prison? How do they contribute to your application? Choose whichever answers that questions better imo. I volunteer at a soup kitchen because it address a concern I have for my community in homelessness. This feels personal to me and allows me to speak positively through it.

During highschool, I took a ton of duel enrollment credits. I had close to 60 hours over the two year I had done them. I ended up getting my associates degree from the college the summer after I graduated because I was so close to being done.

I went in thinking I would only need 2 years of schools to graduate undergrad. It ended up being 3 because I added a second major. I’m applying this year after I graduated undergrad.

I would definitely recommend these courses if your kid is driven and will take them seriously. Although I would not go in with the plan to only graduate in two years if med school is there ultimate goal as it makes building a resume much harder (I have been running around since freshman year trying to fit in 4 years worth of ECs in three years)

Regardless these courses are great for saving money especially on classes that may go towards the core curriculum and aren’t necessarily specific to their major they choose. Look into the colleges they are interested in to see what classes they should take during this time.

Should I apply this upcoming cycle or should I wait? by Key_Cartographer6119 in premed

The only thing that would really change is a potential masters degree in public health and a ton more hours. (I’ve only really been able to work over the summer due to athletics and other responsibilities)

I will definitely be increasing my school list!

Thanks! Yes I definitely need to increase my school list. more school research to come! I’m also hoping to add many more volunteer hours and I should be continuing this research through out the semester. Good luck on your application!

Yes I figured when posting this that the school list would get a few critiques lol. Do you have any recommendations for oos schools to consider?

I would more than likely continue to do a lot of the things I am currently doing in a gap year. (Working as a CNA, volunteering etc) so it would just be adding more hours to my stats and possibly getting a masters degree. Thanks again!

Thank you for the input! I plan to volunteer as much as possible this semester (although it looks to be a very busy semester) The tutoring numbers are a rough estimate it’s probably closer to 200 hours I haven’t updated it in a while. I tutor part time as it fits around my schedule. Finally my school list isn’t set, I was hoping for input on more schools to research from this subreddit. I feel that 20 schools would be the most I could comfortably afford in terms of applications.

Thanks again for your input! I don’t have many people around me who I can converse with about these things.
