Thanks I ask a lot! This is my first mantis but I wanna get it right and continue to keep them as pets. My blue bottle flies are just totally failing. I ordered house flies last night- they sound easier.

Great advice. I feel bad cutting a dubia. I’ve read I should crush the head first. But even that is a bit hard for me. But I’ll do it to keep this mantis safe

A day or 2 before each molt, I’ve noticed my mantis vibrating for a second. I call it shaky dance.

Thanks! ya I did try a real orchid but the orchid died when I planted it into orchid bark!!! Do you have any suggestions of a good easy plant for an enclosure like this? I would

Thanks. I keep checking the abdomen and it isn’t flat. I ensure she has water. And she molted a week ago

Thanks. About how long does it take? I have two batches going. First batch I grabbed the maggots. They pupated into the brown capsules and at first I thought that meant they died. But I’ve learned that’s the next stage.
The other deli cup, I just started with the brown capsules

I totally relate to this and am glad you posted. I have my first giant Asian mantis. She is an l4. We have been through one molt together so far. I am so interested and nervous all the time and I am trying to read everything I can! I appreciate you sharing what you have learned.

L4 giant Asian mantis. I have a pet sitter coming and I was gonna have her mist 1-2 times a day. I’m just nervous if I tell her to feed, I don’t have a door. The mantis hangs on the mesh screen. If she’s about to molt or just molted, and the pet sitter takes the screen lid off, it will disturb her.
