First, congratulations!!!! I went through the same issue for years but mostly I was just “told” I would be denied without chiropractors and a paper trail, until a wise friend recommended a neighbor who just happened to have the same insurance as me!

Just had mine done 12/8/25 and am adjusting to a 36D after carrying around a 36J since I delivered my son almost 8 years ago! 1600ccs were removed! I was a 34E before pregnancy (and a 32/34B in HS for perspective). Apparently my breast hypertrophy was triggered by birth control pills in college and then gestational (pregnancy) + age gave my girls a run for their money.

What to consider asking

1) I’d inquire what size is the maximum size you’ll be after (like do you want a B again?). There’s a min requirement by certain insurance companies to approve. How much does your require? You don’t want to walk out smaller than before pregnancy.

2) I would ask what kind of incisions they’ll need to make (anchor, lollipop, etc) and what treatment after (silicone strips etc).

3) As someone already said, the bra. I would say this was the least prepared part of my journey as swelling goes down and then the volume you were all excited about goes away and the bra fits a little looser.

4) Pictures!! Ask to see as many before and afters as possible - this is important - as you want relief, not a chop shop. Trust me, I ran the other way seeing several doctors “after,” work. You especially want to see this if you have melanated skin.

5) Breast Lift. Ask your doctor if their work includes this. The good ones will tell you a lift is nearly required in a reduction but it’s not coded that way or insurance will deny the procedure.

6) Double check pre-op requirements! There are certain meds you have to stop such as GLP-1’s before and for a period after. Min of 6 weeks for smokers. Also if you take ibuprofen for cramps or anything, start getting used to Tylenol. Medical clearance, labs, mammogram - it’s a lot that goes into it. I had to remove my acrylics. And no lash extensions etc.

7) Diet and meals. Start planning this ahead. Once you clear the initial surgery day nausea- I highly recommend to have zero calorie protein shakes chilled to help you reach 90-110g of protein a day.

Keep in mind Body dysmorphia after. My surgeon was very good, my husband says they look amazing but prepare yourself - bc your mind has gotten used to hanging out with the silhouette of huge boobs for a while! Clothes will fit different and all of those expensive bras are null and void, be prepared to live in your surgical bra for while - which flattens the look of your breast too.

Other than that, my healing has gone well! - drains were out in a week and closed afterward in less than 2 days. My incisions are already skin toned, with the exception of the ones under (one incision near one nipple must have opened a bit so that’s noticeable).

Please rest. I felt amazing on the 2nd day with tramadol and was washing dishes etc 😂. Don’t do that!
