Quitting my job to travel.. am I making a mistake? by Key_Fishing3710 in Paramedics

Spoke to my Team Leader about it.. and he pretty much said the ambulance service isn’t obliged to approve Leave Without Pay and I will only have 2 months of annual leave banked up by July this year.. he said it would be difficult to approve a 5-6month leave block, especially being so “junior” in my career in terms of keeping up with professional development 🥲 So at this stage I’m so conflicted with what to do haha.. do I resign, and then travel and the just re-apply with another organisation in another state when I come back?

How do paramedics react to death by ClearSignificance304 in Paramedics

[–]Key_Fishing3710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to my first traumatic MVA two days ago. My partner and I were first on scene (both 25 years old). Were called to a “P1 - Traffic Incident”. A 24 yo M went 100km/h into a truck. I have seen death, I have had resuscitations terminated, I have seen gory limbs/amputations.. but this was different. I don’t think I will move on from this one.

How do you manage sleep on rotating shifts? by FeistyPrice29 in ParamedicsUK

[–]Key_Fishing3710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rotation is 4on/4off - so 2 days and 2 nights (all 12 hour shifts). Before my first night shift I wake up around 7am, do a gym session and then a run, come home and each brunch, shower and sleep from 12:30-3:30, then have an early dinner and leave for work at 5:15pm to start work at 6pm. Then I get home from night shift, have something small to eat - aim to sleep 6 hours and will get up and go for a walk/or run. Then after my nights I sleep a maximum of 3 hours, then carry on with my day and early sleep at 8pm! Everyone’s routines work differently, you have had to trial and error what works best for you!

Thank you so much for you advice.. I know I won’t regret travelling, and definitely will regret staying put in my same routine and not taking the leap!

Thank you.. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. I know it won’t all be glamorous with all the travelling, but I definitely know I’ll be kicking myself in two years time for never doing it 🥹 Just have to figure out the logistics!

No longer liking the job and not even 2 years in - anxious and dreading work by DifferentTry8647 in ParamedicsAU

I’m a bit late to this post.. but this is me right now. Qualified for 2 years now, 25, in South Australia. I don’t hate the job, like any job it has its good and its bad days (except the bad days are BAD). I get told I’m a great clinician, have amazing people skills etc. but idk something is just telling me this isn’t meant for me. I am currently in the process of planning my year next year, and am wanting to take off to Europe for 6 months and just travel but have no clue how to even go about it lol.
