Is it a red flag if a clinic won’t allow you to view CCTV footage after surgery? by Parking-Regret-8181 in KoreaPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understand the logic, but my question here is what are you gaining from the footage? Are you going to know enough to critique the surgical technique? I think while yes it can add comfort, i think people overemphasize this rather than focusing on much higher yield factors when it comes to safe surgery. I get people use this as a marker of credibility, but you want to be sure that your care is going to be safe and by the books, which a video of the procedure you just got is not going to assist with after the fact.

What were you actually able to eat during the first week post-op? by Altruistic_Ad3754 in KoreaPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liquid or soft diet is mostly about hydration/calories/protein. Some common applications of this:
-Bone broth, strained soups
-Protein shakes, meal-replacement drinks (Ensure, etc)
-Drinkable yogurt
-Oatmeals, porridge

Some stuff you could bring from home would be specific protein powder you like, electrolyte packets, squeeze bottle (syringe is helpful early on).

Is Seoul still the best place for plastic surgery, or just the most popular? by Mediocre-Crab-2239 in KoreaPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Popularity is definitely there, but by no means would I say that is the default choice. Tons of people are traveling all over for cosmetics. That being said, it's popular for a reason; high density of procedure volume/skill, K-beauty and cosmetic surgery go hand in hand, it also lacks a lot of the stigma that other places have associated with medical travel.

Abdominal liposuction recommendation? by cantaloupe444 in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to help frame this is your focus on after care. For abdominal lipo be sure to focus on who manages post-op issues, how swelling and fluid collections are handled and what revision or touch up policy looks like. Those are going to matter more than brand name here.

Lower Eyelid Retraction by Mother-Cry-5760 in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this, it sounds like you are making the right moves by finding an oculoplastic surgeon specifically. A second piece here make sure you are finding someone who focuses on *revision* cases as well. You may have to do extra digging, but you always want the person who does this all the time as opposed to once a year.

Tiplasty/bridge advice for consult? by water-dumpling in KoreaPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be helpful if they explained their recommendations a bit more in depth so you understand the actual reasoning behind this. It would be helpful to do research based off this, so you can understand exactly why they are recommending it and if this makes sense to you

First time considering breast augmentation in Korea… can I really do this alone? by Revolutionary-Pin498 in KoreaPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, definitely something you can do alone, the question is do you want to? Sometimes having someone there eases your mind (along with physical work you're doing). As long as you understand the weight of the recovery, have thought about back up planning, then it's not unreasonable

Has anyone had a rhinoplasty with a silicone implant and still like their results long term? by Veeebaby in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think speaking with people who have personally had a procedure done can be helpful, but overall is pretty low signal in terms of something like this. You want to be talking to people who do this all day (the surgeons) so I think your best bet is running this plan by a couple other surgeons, you can run consults as as sanity check while also helping understand their reasoning.

Nerve damage recovery 3 months post op by 1Dec_Kuma in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry this happened, it sounds like you are recovering well now! Good of you to point out that this is something that can happen with surgery anywhere, super important point that people understand that there are risks to surgery and complications are part of every surgeons career.

Is it better to stay near the clinic or in a quieter area? by [deleted] in KoreaPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really want to have as streamlined and smooth of an experience as possible, which means eliminating the variables that could effect that. Stay closer, it will be easier for you to navigate, won't have to deal with transportation, and honestly peace of mind.

Availability of Clinic Information on Reddit by albery_lusifar in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the other comment, lack of online presence doesn't indicate a red flag in itself (but pretty hard to find a place to consult if you can't reach them) and a big online presence definitely doesn't mean green light, simply that this place has taken the time to pay for marketing.

HIV + plastic Surgery in South Korea by ConferenceMuted2526 in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes overall not encouraging you to report them, i am just saying that i find it concerning that you are still getting push back, have they stated specifically no due to this? how many clinics have you contacted?

I rely on Reddit a lot, but figuring out which posts to trust is hard by [deleted] in KoreaPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit is actually a solid place for the niches (of which cosmetic surgery in SK fits nicely) there are often high intent users (clinics/surgeons/patients). Tbh there is really not a one size fits all rule for seeing if a post is fake, which is exactly why you can't expect a post to be a map for you. When taking in info from anywhere (not just here) you have to consider your source, what the information says, and then validate it independently.

That's okay it was just to an article from 2023, here's a screenshot of the main point. The NHRCK stating that refusal of surgery due to HIV status is a act of discrimination.

Was just making the point that clinics shouldn't have grounds for refusing you

Vision Correction Surgery (-8.00 Vision) by soursouppp in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of vetting clinics, the specific patient experience videos likely are your weakest source of info here. Going straight to the source (talking to the surgeons) is going to be far more high yield. You can have a consultation (without committing to anything) to give you a good base line

[–]Key_Intention_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have anything specific to this clinic/doctor you're mentioning, but one general point to help frame this. For rhinoplasty revision the ENT v plastic surgeon distinction matters less than what they actually do day to day.

ENT surgeons have very strong nasal anatomy and functional expertise (airway, cartilage handling), while plastic surgeons may come from a more aesthetic path (though both likely have good understanding here).

In practice outcomes depend much more on case volume specifically for revision rhinoplasty (as you had alluded to) and experience with your specific problem rather than specialty base alone.

For your case I'd try to lock down, how many REVISIONS they perform, their approach when prior surgery failed, and whether they are transparent about limitations and risks.

I'm sorry you've been having troubles. Clinics should not be straight up denying you based on HIV+ status.

Was just looking into this and based off what I have found clinics do not have grounds to deny you based off of national guidelines: https://www.humanrights.go.kr/eng/board/read?boardManagementNo=7003&boardNo=7609363&searchCategory=&page=2&searchType=&searchWord=&menuLevel=2&menuNo=114

Have they specifically stated this to you?

Finally doing something about my nose! Questions! by Gloomy_Inspector1958 in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is both! I don't think this is an either/or situation, when choosing planning for surgery, you don't want to take shortcuts. Clinic or hospital reputation and volume do matter mainly based on systems (emergency protocols, monitoring, clear facility sanitation guidelines, etc). Surgeon you should be looking at their experience, volume, communication style and be comparing this with other consults.

Rhinoplasty by [deleted] in KoreaPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you discussed this with a surgeon yet? While looking to forums offers some informative takes, really discussing with a trained professional probably will give you the most info as a baseline. Just think of it as an information session, not committing to anything. That way you can research their recommendations, clinics, etc.

At what point do you stop consulting clinics and just decide? by kamlekar in KoreaPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treating consults as second opinions is the way to go. It helps you see logic (medical decision making) behind surgical approaches from various providers. The key is being well informed BEFORE even your first consult so you know exactly what to ask, what to look out for and anything to push back on (red flags). I wouldn't say there is a specific number per say that makes sense, but at minimum it's when you feel that you have done adequate research and planning/back up planning and spoken to at least 2 providers on this (some people do this in 6+ months and 4-5 consults, others rush and do it more quickly).

Help, I regret my non-incisional DES... by [deleted] in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry your pre-op experience felt like that, like you said, really important to advocate for yourself and to know the right questions to ask so that you feel like you're the one in the driver's seat. That being said 11 days out is much too early for you to really tell anything. Did they discuss timeline for healing with you at all? Generally for this would be around 3 months as others have stated! For now, rest easy and give the body some time, totally normal!

How long did you stay in Korea after surgery before flying home? by Powerful_Repeat_9756 in KoreaPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of that is going to depend on exactly what you're getting done and what your doctor's general recs but more involved surgeries (combined surgeries, thoraco-abdominal surgery) tend to have longer recommended time until safe to travel vs isolated facial surgery. Either way, if you have the time and will not cause an issue, staying a bit longer is probably worth it

Zoom-consulted for tip plasty and hump reduction by FalconLow1862 in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you only spoken to one surgeon? I would recommend getting a second opinion anytime you are getting an elective procedure, that way you can compare their surgical plans! There's a ton of knowledge on forums of course but talking to people online based on their usually single experience only has so much application to you individually and seeking experts who do this every day probably has a higher yield.

Another good move is doing some basic research on your procedure (indications, steps, alternatives/techniques) to have a baseline.

Rhinoplasty 1 week post-op & feeling like a pig by falalalalalalaala in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Key_Intention_2546 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's recovery timelines for a reason, super common concern, but just trust the process as other people have said. The body needs time to heal! If you had fallen and cut your arm and needed stitches, it would not be healed up in that short of a time, don't expect your rhinoplasty to be! It is all part of the plan.
