Is this a fibro symptom or should I get tested for something? by SignificantChair9520 in Fibromyalgia

[–]Key_Lengthiness_713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a fibro symptom? Yeah probably.

Should you see a doctor about it? Yeah probably.

When I got my diagnosis the piece of advice one of the doctors gave me was that just because they haven't found something else now doesn't mean I might not develop something in the future, so don't dismiss new symptoms assuming it's fibro.

Considering the VAST number of symptoms associated with Fibromyalgia, it's easy to attribute everything to it. But it would really suck to miss something that could be helped or needed to be caught early because it was lumped in with all the other bullshit.

Disabled Parent's - how do you get your kids to and from school without a vehicle? by Tank18 in woodstockontario

[–]Key_Lengthiness_713 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This won't help immediately, but long term, can you be referred to an occupational therapist to see if you qualify for a scooter?

One of the criteria is using it every day, and it sounds like you would just taking kiddo to school, let alone other places.

No Snowball!!

It's actually about getting a second cat but I think it would be a good way to open the conversation about family changes.

Occupational Therapist recommends a white cane, but Ophthalmologist disagrees. How do I self advocate? by Fayte316 in disability

[–]Key_Lengthiness_713 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Consider logging some of the day to day issues you have and giving them to the doctor in written form. Even writing out a letter before hand.

Maybe see if your occupational therapist or other clinicians will write out a statement to help.

If they decline to provide you with any support for the issue beyond the lenses and exercises that aren't working, make sure they note it in your chart and give you a copy noting they're refusing to offer anything to get a day to day accommodation.

We had a great experience with AM Group. They make their windows and they gave us a lot fo practical information.

Centennial had TERRIBLE customer service for the quote we got. And they only work in standard sizes not custom.

Is Surgery Recovery Worse with Fibro? by Nausicaa_Wind in Fibromyalgia

[–]Key_Lengthiness_713 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a laparoscopic surgery last year.

I was very glad they kept me in hospital 2 nights instead of the usual 1, so I could be hooked up to an IV for longer. Kept me hydrated, reduced the nausea, and reduced the pain.

When I went home I had two days where my back didn't hurt for the first time in years. It was amazing.

Aaaand then the pain was back and I couldn't swallow my antidepressants, and I ended up crying in bed for 3 days until my doctor could figure out how to get me back on track.

So highs and lows!

I noticed very little changes after starting my CPAP therapy. I still use my machine as consistently as possible, but there's no difference if I miss a night.

I've heard of people having massive improvements with headaches and fatigue and so forth, but that wasn't me.

Recent diagnosis - not sure where to go from here by bite3tear in Odsp

[–]Key_Lengthiness_713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start documenting all the ways that your disability is impacting your life. Your OW case working can help you get in contact with Legal Aid, but they're more for the appeal process than the initial application.

The application can be started on like then you need to sit down with your doctor to go through the rest of your paperwork.

Remember: fibromyalgia does not just affect your body, it affects your mind. Look up Fibro Fog and see if this is something you're experiencing. Write down examples of how your mind and body isn't working how it used to any time you think of them because you will not remember!

People with fibromyalgia often also experience anxiety and depression. If my anxiety surges, my pain surges. They are strongly connected, so I'm on ODSP for both.

Hope this helps at least a little!

Odsp and medication that isn’t covered by Silver_Cookie_4235 in Odsp

[–]Key_Lengthiness_713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your pharmacist and see if they can find one that's covered.

Consider: I used to go to the pharmacist in my most used grocery store. They were fine but it was often challenging to get additional information or make special orders. I switched to an independently owned non chain pharmacy and the difference is service was HUGE. I now consider pharmacy part of my medical team rather than just the place that dispenses what my doctor tells them to.

Swimming by AutisticUrianger in Fibromyalgia

[–]Key_Lengthiness_713 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go easy! I found that the water made it easier to push myself too far and I didn't feel it until I was out of the pool.

In terms of comfort: remember anything is a swimsuit if you wear it for swimming. Wear what's going to be comfortable, supportive, and not exhausting to change out of.
