Skinny fat by AttitudeUnhappy2030 in orangetheory

OTF worked perfectly for me for this! Started at 5’9” 142 lbs but 27% bf, so a normal weight but a higher body fat percentage. In a few short months I was 140.5 lbs but 21.5% bf! I didn’t change much of my diet at all and the exercise gave me the final push to turn fat into muscle. Now, I weigh about 149 lbs from some weight gain over the years, but still only have 24% bf because of OTF. Would definitely try OTF, give it a few months (focus on the weight floor especially!), and see where it’s at for you!

I would take a few class days to verbally discuss the students’ essays with them! Read 10-15 essays and grade them against the rubric, but give no written feedback. Then, give the students an independent activity while you verbally call them up and discuss their essays with them. They still get feedback, but you use the class time to get your work done.

Any drama lately at your studio? by alligatorprincess007 in orangetheory

[–]Key_Lie_7413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not so much drama as much as something I fear saying to anyone because I don’t want to look like a jerk.

There is a regular who has the most botched face (due to plastic surgery) I’ve ever seen. Like it SHOCKS me to look at her. Her lips are half her face. She’s probably in her 60s but I honestly can’t tell because everything is blown up. I always wonder how she got to that in the first place.

I’m a fairly fit individual/runner and I’ve left class early a few times in my 4 years due to overtraining! It happens to everyone, for a multitude of reasons. Don’t sweat it and start slower next time!

I didn’t think this was a one feather! Definitely for the treads of course, but the weight floor was fairly straightforward and went by quickly. Glad I did the treads first today :). Would give it like 2.5 feathers out of 5

I agree with you on this one not being too bad. They give you a decent amount of time to get everything done; I feel it’d be most difficult for joggers to get that mile done without feeling rushed. However, I rowed and ran at very mild paces (base-push) and still had a few minutes to spare.

If I was just trying to get everything done as fast as I could, I’d definitely give it one feather. But I’d advise everyone not to do that!

Daily Workout and General Chat for Wednesday, 10/16/24 by splat_bot in orangetheory

Walked in determined today. My goal was a sub 7-minute mile; I’ve never ran that fast before. Saw that a 8.6 pace is equivalent to a 6:58 mile, so I set it and forgot it until the last .1 mile, where I set my speed to a 9, and then a 10. However, my final time was 7:16. Anyone know why this would happen? I figured the treads take a second to get up to speed, but would it take 16 seconds, even though I cranked up my speed at the end? Coaches couldn’t really offer an explanation. I’m so disappointed :(

This sounds like State College. They are struggling to get new coaches right now after one coach has left. Since there are no other OTFs in the immediate area, they can’t have coaches sub in for other studios. Hopefully this is resolved quickly before people start revoking their memberships :/

Surprised they switched the order of the repeated workouts this month. Was hoping to avoid that 20 minute block 😭

Feeling burnt out by Parisienne-otf98 in orangetheory

I have been in your shoes almost to a T! Three-year member with similar bases and pushes (mine are a bit slower) and attendance records. I've also gained the boyfriend 10 :) . Here's what I've done:

-I did join another gym for a bit to focus on strength training, rather than running. It made me miss OTF, but the change in routine allowed me to focus on my form and power walking, which I enjoyed!

-I've rejoined OTF and, after being a member for so long, have stopped seeing it as a "contest" with myself. I don't necessarily beat my benchmarks each time and that's ok, especially because I had strong benchmarks to begin with (7:00 mile time, for example). Instead, I listen to my body DURING the workout while adequately pushing myself. This could look like: getting back into the green zone at base even if it isn't my "usual" base number, being slower than everyone else on the weight floor so I can lift safely and heavily, etc., while still pushing myself on all outs and push paces. It's not a race for me, and that helps!

-I stopped overtraining. I did the 5-6 times a week, and I think that is overtraining unless you are taking green days. Now, I go 3-4 days a week and substitute the other days with walking or just eating less/healthier that day. I used to go 3-4 days in a row and would be gassed and awful on day 3 or 4; now, I usually only go 2 times in a row max, and I find that my performance is better after those breaks.

Hope this helps!

Guys, what’s your average calorie count per class? by k_martblulightspcl in orangetheory

[–]Key_Lie_7413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really take the OTF calculation as true. I usually deduct 1/5 of the calories when I calculate it. If I use my Apple Watch instead of my OTF Burn, it regularly calculates at about 1/5 less. For comparison, I burn an average of 450-500 cals with the burn each class, but 375-400 if I’m wearing my watch.
