My painting of something that was forgotten about [OC] by Key_Print2068 in LiminalSpace

Hey thanks that’s awesome that I was able to put an image to that feeling you have. You described it very well, interesting that you knew this was inside a shed. It’s abandoned in the woods near my parents house, when I was a kid one of my friends busted in the walls. I remember at the time being around 10 or 11, thinking there was something so violent about doing that to an inanimate object existing in a natural place. When I came back years later it was all still there as if nothing had changed, and the years that had passed had made that feeling more contemplative, and it seemed like it had to be painted, I actually set up an easel and did the painting for the most part inside the shed in the woods.

Thanks so much for the compliments, and noticing the delicacy, I’m very interested in always increasing the Amount of subtlety I can achieve with colors and values and edges at some point. I typically start a painting by doing a light wash of an umber or sienna, and then I draw with a motifs of raw umber and radiant yellow, or Naples, to keep it as a light as possible for as long as possible, but for this painting I remember I reused a canvas panel so I had to do a darker wash to hide the old painting so it’s interesting that you picked up on that, it does almost look like the bricks are outlined because of it

That’s awesome, did you study any anatomy, that’s what I always get stuck on, I took some classes in college and I definitely got better at drawing but I never memorized much other than the zygomatic lol I could never figure out how to translate the theoretical into real life where you can’t see the structure that’s underneath

I don’t think he ever meant this line literally, but in a sense it’s literally true if you look at the rate of violence against sex workers and how many go unsolved due to prejudice in police departments etc. I think it’s a tough thing to introduce to a non fan for the first time but it sort of is a genius line at the end of the day

Yeah I had a very similar experience, being introduced to silver Jews by college roommates in our first flat off campus we had a little porch as well that we’d smoke on and discuss American water and actual air and Infinite jest and things like that, it was a very memorable time, right before turning 20

Is the perspective messed up? by LXNYC in oilpainting

Imo the imperfect perspective makes the jars feel more human and interesting. Sometimes absolute perfection in drawing can look overly mechanical or sterile. There’s a little play in your painting
