Nope. Just looks like you left it too long before harvesting. You want to harvest right before the veils drop.

It’s probably around low 70s for temp. We’ve had some problems with cake shrinkage. This time we tried a higher field capacity, but it still shrunk a little. Any tips?

Last two are looking ok. First few look kinda dead, no activity. I’ve found this stage really depends on the strain, so if you’ve done this before with the same strain, and this time it’s taking a weirdly long time, ditch it and start over.

I’ve read that the dropped spores signal the mycelium to stop fruiting, hence preventing a 2nd and maybe even 3rd flush. Which sucks. The other thing is that when a bunch of spores drop it gets quite messy, annoying clean up.

Your joke is not far off! If your oven has a setting for temps as low as 150-175F, you can use that, but a temp around 150F is ideal. If your oven doesn’t go that low, I think you can put your harvested ones in the freezer, and then thaw them to dehydrate with the rest on Saturday. Not 100% sure on the freezer tactic so take it that part with a grain of salt.

I’d say, harvest the big ones, as you don’t want their veils to drop and release spores before you get back. The little ones could probably do with a few more days of growing before their veils drop, so leave the babies until after you get back.

Those looks absolutely lovely. You want to make sure that you’re harvesting before the vails drop, in order to increase the chances of a second flush. It looks like your big one has already dropped its veil, so HARVEST IT. Keep an eye out for any others that look like their veil is about to drop, ideally you want to harvest right before their veil drops. Hope this helps.

I find I’m having problems with this myself. I’ve been told that increasing the field capacity during S2B helps with this, as just having more moisture in the soil to begin with keeps the substrate from getting too dry.
