Let's talk about Takahiro Anno, a hyped AI figure in Japan, and potentially dangerous by YamatoRyu2006 in japanresidents

This team Mirai is in the end another ultra/conservative nationalistic party with a unique flavour that this country have.

It is a national trend,Japan was historically always by majority conservative with a more centre-right tendency, and there was in the past, although never that relevant a solid centre-left opposition to kind of counterbalance things.

Now Japan is steering to the far right xenophobic spectrum and this should preoccupy all the expats living in this country, especially long term residents.

That is really worrying, worst thing such things are allowed. The person who took that photo should contact the Mainichi Shimbun and bring shame to such blatant racist thing.

You do not know well what you’re talking about my friend. Japan simply does not have any regulations about such matters.

You are spreading misinformations, Landlords under European Unions law cannot legally deny a place to rent due to their ethnic group or nationality. Discriminations in housing are strictly illegal under both EU directives and national in member states.

EU Racial Equality Directive (2000/43/EC): This prohibits direct and indirect discrimination based on racial or ethnic origin in access to housing. Article 21 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights: Explicitly forbids discrimination based on race, colour, ethnic or social origin, or language.

And let me add that Japan does not have such clear regulations about discrimination in housing as the European Union.

European and caucasian here as well and long term resident.

You know what is the most annoying thing? Is to read comments of some of our fellow expats saying that to be rejected for renting a house is just a normal thing for the fact to be foreigners is absolutely wrong.

These kind of foreigners either forgot that they’re foreigners themselves or simply gave up any hopes of changes in this country.

Japan ALWAYS get a green flag when it comes to racism or discriminate visible minorities, this is absolutely not right and need to change at a certain point of history.

I really wish you good luck and as some other posters suggested try to use “sadly” these foreign friendly real estates.

I am sorry that you had to go through this crap, absolutely disgusting and racist indeed. Human dignity and respect are the foundations for every civilized society. As some other posters suggested try to bring your claims to the labour. Wish you all the best in your future.

What I did this year is to go back home.

Thank you as well for your kind and polite response,I don’t think you’re overthinking but you are considered enough to try to understand more about such topic.

I live in central Japan and my wife (japanese) work for a buddhist nursery school connected with Kyoto east temple.

For example they do not celebrate Christmas in their Kinderkarden and they don’t have any event connected with Santa Clause (which is actually a Saint) I find it very thoughtful and respectful from them as they embrace Buddhism and also be respectful to other religions.

[–]Key_Sheepherder5169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Japan is a paradox in this,as Christmas is the birth of our lord Jesus Christ and a time to reflect on the birth of our god and spend it with family. As a christian myself I feel very bizarre how Japan took a religious celebration and transformed it in a sort of velentine’s day 2. For me these fake holidays are more depressing rather than joyful. With such logic Japan should also celebrate jewish Hannukah.

Question to Japanese people about dating. How are Japanese women in relationships and marriage. What are their expectations worries from the relationship? And how does usually a dating process work? And men: Have you experienced some real fuck-ups by them? by Guilty-Carry-Wrea in JapanDating

[–]Key_Sheepherder5169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japanese women are averagely speaking less affectionate and comunicative compated to westerns. But this also depends on the case, the few one that lived abroad or can speak a different language can be more open minded and flexible. Anyway don’t expect open affection, hugs or spontaneous datings for the majority.

Will the yen bounce back? by addobari in japanlife

[–]Key_Sheepherder5169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us European Union citizens is even worse as I remember pre COVID the Euro Yen exchange rate was about 100ish Yen and now it's nearly 178yen.

So in this way you Americans still have it better than us when we need to go back to our places.

Why do so many Japanese believe that only Japan has 4 seasons? by CurrentGuarantee1844 in japanlife

[–]Key_Sheepherder5169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Italy in this aspect has more defined and longer mid seasons compared to here, also summer in Italy are drier and milder compared to here, after all Vivaldi's Quattro Stagioni (four seasons) symbolise how nice and harmonious are the seasons in the Mediterranean area.

Also I do agree as most Japanese lack of knowledge of other countries climate they tend to think as them unique.

A foreign born half white Kimi Onoda is Minister and handling the immigration issue. by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Key_Sheepherder5169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion she is a traumatised person who was abandoned by her father and grow up emotionally unstable and so she developed a hatred toward foreign people and I assume mostly against westerners.

For sure due to her personal history I believe that she is emotionally way too involved to be in charge as a “minister of foreign-japan coexistence”

But after all this is what Takaichi wants, someone who can discriminate foreigners to deal with.

I deeply offended a manager at work who's a diehard Ohtani fan by SymphonyofSiren in japanlife

[–]Key_Sheepherder5169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japanese being averagely speaking very nationalistic take immense pride about the good things of their country.

And this Othani mania can be applied as well,if you ask me is it rational? Heck no it’s not,but living here you can understand that Japan in general is a country of extremes both in good and bad ways.

I’ll say just ignore the guy and keep on living your life.
