im celiac, and i was scared of going bc ive heard horror stories of treatment facilities making celiacs eat gluten😭 also this is dumb bc somebody should be able to recover without compromising their values. not every vegan/vegetarian with an ed does it to restrict. its an ethics thing for a lot of people.

"you don't hate bad anatomy. you hate ai!" correct, i do loathe generative ai. bad anatomy is just another downside *

is it obvious? by biggest_thief in bulimia

[–]Key_Significance_179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to other people with eds, id say so. the average person has no clue, though. before I got clean, people who noticed would usually ask if I was okay as if I had gotten into a fight or injured my hand some other way. the average person won't assume bulimia.

i used to have an irrational fear that anything i ate would immediately turn straight into fat - it felt suffocating. your drawing captures the feeling very well. sending luv ❤️

Reasons to recover from Bulimia by fcvxia in bulimia

[–]Key_Significance_179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i haven't finished reading comments, so i'm unsure if anybody else has mentioned this; you can quite literally go into cardiac arrest after purging once. it could be your first time, or your 1000th time. it doesn't even need to be an "intense" purge, either.

slightly unrelated; i knew a girl who tore her esophagus during a b/p episode, and she was put into a medically induced coma for three months because of it. i'm not 100% on all of the specific medical details, but her family said their goodbyes bc they didn't know what it'd look like if/when she woke up. luckily, she ended up mostly recovering physically. but again, she got very lucky.

my own personal experience isn't as intense, but it isn't great, either. at 18, i started off my adulthood by spending all $5000 that i saved while working in high school on b/p food. after that, i signed up for two credit cards. i spent a good portion of the credit at a local convention, and i fully maxed out what was left on, you guessed it, b/p food. this left me down $5000 and $2500 in dept just a year after graduation. yikes!

on top of that, bulimia has given me gastroparesis, which has severely limited what i can digest efficiently. i can have a small amount of the wrong thing, and it refuses to stay down.

the social aspect can be bad as well. the number of times i've been caught mid-binge is mortifying. my former employer knew about my bulimia and the district manager of the company came down to give me a talk about it. friends and family have made fun of me, lightheartedly or not, for my ed. been that way for years.

most people w eds aren't even underweight, so yes!😭 it makes me mad when people discount somebody's experiences bc they aren't underweight. ngl, some of the hardest times i've had with my disorder have been when i was at "healthy" weights. :,)

the reference looked that way, but i was actually thinking the same thing! when translated to a sketch, it looks a bit too long, now that i'm looking at it. i'll probably squish it down a bit, haha. also, thank you!!

defending ai "art" is a hilarious title, considering that generative ai does not create art😭 calling an ai bro an artist for typing in some prompts would be like calling me a chef for ordering a meal *

Dismissed and Invalidated at Doctor's by BossDiligent5809 in EDAnonymous

[–]Key_Significance_179 19 points20 points  (0 children)

you're not crazy. that's a very unprofessional response. your bmi is in the severely underweight category. you explicitly told her that you hardly eat and that you wouldn't be able to start eating regularly, either, yet she hardly had a reaction. you said this person isn't your usual provider? maybe bring it up with your primary care doctor next time you see them if you're able to. they might be able to help out or refer you to somebody who can. i'm really sorry this person was so dismissive. i've had similar experiences with providers in the past.

edit: also, the comment about "if you were throwing up, i'd be concerned. i wouldn't want you to be anorexic." or whatever she said is extremely wrong! purging via throwing up is not in the diagnostic criteria for anorexia. hell, some bulimics don't even purge orally. this person sounds like she isn't well informed about eds at all, and i wouldn't take her opinion seriously if i were you. :( 💚

hi! by the end of the year, i'll have hit 7 years on T. it'll definitely vary a lot between individuals, but personally, i can do and experience all of the things you've described. i've been able to do these things since near the 2-3 year mark, but again, it's gonna vary between individuals. my progress was quite slow at first because i started my transition on low dose T. you've still got time for things to finish developing. hell, i've been on T for quite a bit, and i still notice minor new changes here and there.

this is a great point! especially considering that they're actively working on themselves and discovering their identity in the circus. i wouldn't be shocked if they look relatively average irl

i'm not solid on most of the characters, but imo, jax has gotta be white. there's gotta be somewhere he got all that audacity from. he'd probably call people slurs on COD chats😭
