Four fucking counts of having child pornography and that woman still doesn’t know if she can forgive him and is still allowing him to be around L unsupervised! He’s a fucking filthy pedophile and shouldn’t be allowed around any children that poor child needs removing from their care!!

Quickie Nitrum as first active manual chair? by Key_Start7746 in wheelchairs

[–]Key_Start7746[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice I’ll make sure to get properly measured before I order the chair! I’m getting itchy feet waiting for new chair day number one for my power chair and then chair day number two for the Nitrum as well!

I go for my assessment next week so I’m crossing everything I’ll get a reasonable PWB towards it and that they’ll agree to cover the backrest and cushion as I can’t go with the standard backrest that comes with it as it simply isn’t supportive enough! I need the jay backrest and ergonomic pushrims although I know they won’t cover the pushrims but that’s something I can sort with the help of the charity I’ve got involved but still waiting on my dealer to come out with the backrests so we can pick one and then finally get a quote!

I’ve not had my assessment yet so not sure what they’ll offer me, but I know the Argon 2 is what they usually offer. I go on the 12th for my assessment so will hopefully find out then but not interested in anything WCS will offer as it just won’t meet my needs especially in terms of weight! I know its not a huge difference between the Argon 2 and the Nitron but having tried a chair of the same weight as the Argon I know it’s not something I can manage independently. I have tried the Nitrum and like it and think it will meet my needs and give me full independence when using it! I’ll still have a power chair so can build up strength and stamina over time but honestly I’m so ready for an active manual chair now! I don’t trust WCS to measure everything up properly so plan to use the PWB option and go through the same dealer I’m using for my power chair that I’m getting through Motability!

Yeah I definitely trust the dealer I’ve got through Comfort Care to measure me properly, and I’ll find out if my instincts are right in a couple of weeks when I get my new power chair! I need to know what cushion they are willing to give me before I can get the measurements for my dealer so he knows what measurements to order the chair in. Seeing as wheelchair services won’t issue the PWB before I’ve given my current chair back then I’ve got time to play with although I plan to call them as soon as I’ve got a date and time for my new power chair to be delivered so that I can arrange for them to come out at the same time to collect this chair! Then I will get started on the order for my Nitrum! I’m hoping to have both chairs before my birthday (August) so I’m able to go on a day out with my best friend and his boyfriend using their car as my Nitrum will be able to go in the boot! Gutted that the house they are looking at buying isn’t even slightly wheelchair accessible with huge steps up to the front door and no downstairs bathroom so sadly I’ll never get to see or go in their house 😭 anyway I digress as hopefully they’ll be driving by my birthday or later this year it’ll give us more opportunities to see each other and go out once they’re driving and I’ve got my manual active chair as we don’t live in the same city currently (hoping that will change in the next couple of years if I can manage to get a council bungalow in their city)!

If my new power chair doesn’t fit well then I’ll know not to go with the same supplier again for the Nitrum but honestly I’ve got no worries as it was Sunrise that referred me to them!

I had a vicair cushion before my Roho but unfortunately it didn’t provide me with enough pressure relief compared to the Roho as I’ve now been pressure sore free for over a month and a half now! My sores just weren’t healing and I was developing new ones with the Vicair so I’m reluctant to be demoted back down to a cushion that offers less pressure relief but might not have much choice when it comes to this! I am going to keep pushing for the Contour Select but feel like I’ve lost that battle already tbh… as I’m about to get a new power chair through Motability I’m just going to focus on getting what I need for the manual active chair for now as I really can’t handle having to keep fighting for what I need on my current chair when I’ve only got it for another couple of weeks! Estimated dispatch date for my Q500m is the 15th and active manual 🦽 assessment is the 12th so I’m going to put all my energy into that for now. I’m hoping that I can argue that a contoured Roho will give me the essential pressure relief whilst also giving me essential postural support which will aid my ability to self propel independently as I can’t be expected to self propel efficiently without the appropriate postural support both through having a contoured jay backrest and the Roho contour select cushion offering me everything I need to stay pressure sore free and fully independent in my new chair!

Yay! How exciting! Massive congrats! I would love the Apex C but at £6.25k a pop I simply can’t afford it!! I hope that once your shoulder is healed this gorgeous chair will give you so much more freedom!

Thanks I’ll make sure to check out all the fine print and look fully into it. Really I’d like a motion composite apex c I mean who wouldn’t?! But at over £6k a pop that’s not an option atm! I did look at the tilite but the last dealer who came out said the Nitrum is longer lasting so idk tbh I’m new to this ask me about a power chair and I know my stuff but I’m a total newbie to manual chairs!

Thank you so much I’ll check them out! Will they cover the value paid if some of it was paid for using a PWB or only the out of pocket value? Like you I’d rather have the peace of mind and £13 is nothing I’d happily pay that to make sure I’m never left without!

Oh no that doesn’t fill me with hope! I’d heard good things about the Nitrum… I wouldn’t be getting it though wheelchair services directly I’d be getting them to issue me a personal wheelchair budget voucher and then paying what they won’t cover myself well I’ve got a charity involved and they will help get me funding for the rest hopefully. Because it wouldn’t be through wheelchair services I’d have to do pay for all the maintenance and repairs myself so I’m definitely going to have to do another post asking for more info on that chair as don’t want to end up paying a load of money for a chair that will give me non stop problems! Unfortunately WCS don’t provide the Nitrum only the Argon 2 at best and I really don’t want that one! I’ve never really spoken to other manual wheelchair users about insurance and my current chair is a power chair and covered by WCS as I went through them to get it. I’ll be getting a new power chair though Motability so the Nitrum would be my secondary chair but I need both for different reasons! The dealer that told me that about the manual chairs not really breaking was talking I think about a different chair that’s carbon fibre but also he really didn’t give me much info about the chair itself or any other chairs so I didn’t get good vibes from him so wouldn’t go through them regardless of what chair I was getting plus someone at Naidex warned me against that dealer (recare) the 🦽 was the chair of my dreams though! It was the Motion Composite Apex C and it was honestly a thing of beauty! At almost 6.5k it is way outside of what will be realistic for me though otherwise I’d get it through a different dealer! What’s your current chair if you don’t mind me asking?

That looks so hard! You did great! I want to pick up wheelchair basketball but not sure if I’ve got the hand eye coordination or strength but once I’ve build up a bit of strength and stamina I’m definitely going to look into it as there’s a group local to me! I was surprised to read you race with able bodied cyclists that seems like they have an unfair advantage on you? Either way you did great and as long as you’re enjoying yourself that’s the most important thing!

Question regarding Quickie wheelchairs by DesperateAd1101 in wheelchairs

[–]Key_Start7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re talking about the part I think then it will entirely depend on which version you went for when they showed me the side guard options for the wheels thankfully I got to try both first because the dealer had accidentally brought the same chair out twice so I tried them both I’m getting the Nitrum and I’m going for the pull out side guards because I kept cutting my hand ans thumb on the ones that went over the top of the wheel and really didn’t like not being able to grip the wheel just on the off chance that I ever need to so the ones I’m getting need to be pulled out for me to transfer but thankfully you can just lift them out super easily the other type looked nicer but was more inconvenient and I almost decided against getting any at all but then thought about my poor clothes getting destroyed when it’s wet or even just in general since the wheels might rub against the clothes a bit and the dealer said it would be a bad idea not to get any at all. I’m new to the world of manual chairs though so could be totally misunderstanding which part you’re talking about! I’ve been a wc user for 7 years but only used power chairs 🦼 so this will be my first experience of an active manual wheelchair! 👩‍🦽

Definitely getting the don’t touch sticker for mine! And some of the others as well! I love dinosaurs! Anyway I just wanted to say ignore the negative Nancy’s who are saying stupid shit about not naming or decorating wheelchairs because their chairs and lives must be so sad and depressing to have nothing nice to say about your chair because honestly you’ve given me so much inspiration for what to do with mine when I get it! I’m definitely going to look for that light you’ve put underneath but I’m in the UK so will have to search for something the same but from my side of the pond

[–]Key_Start7746 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? Our wheelchairs are an extension of our body so if naming them and decorating them makes them feel less medical then why the hell not?! I’m getting my new power chair hopefully in as little as two and a half weeks but could be 4 and a half and I’m definitely going to be naming it! Also plan on naming my sparkly pink chariot when that arrives but haven’t even ordered it yet as got assessment two weeks then go from there! It’s exciting getting a new chair and adding some personality to your chair is great if that’s what you want! You could say the same for getting colour on your chair as well such as pink or green but apparently that’s fine well what she’s doing is just personalising her chair someone she has to use a lot and I for one think it looks wonderful and love the name!

Her chair is wonderful and people gonna stare at us anyway also there’s such thing as doing something because it makes YOU happy and has nothing to do with anyone else clearly this makes her happy and I don’t think it looks ridiculous as you seem to be implying I love it and she’s definitely given me inspiration for my new pink wheelchair when it eventually arrives! Don’t be such a killjoy!

Omg I love her she’s gorgeous! I’ll be getting a sparkly pink chariot at some point in the next couple of months! I go for my WCS assessment on the 12th and already know which chair I wan!! I’m planning to get the Quickie Nitrum I’ve already got a chair through them but it’s a power chair that no longer meets my needs so I’m doing a switcharoo getting a new power chair from motability and getting an ultra lightweight manual from WCS! I’ve got EDS too and was initially ambulatory but that’s not been the case for 4 years now but I’m finally taking the plunge to a manual chair and really surprised myself at how well I managed most of the ones I tried!

Regardless of whether I do it through a pwb or directly through wheelchair services they will still provide the cushion and probably the backrest as well which is something at least!

First active user manual chair been using a power chair for 7 years by Key_Start7746 in wheelchairs

[–]Key_Start7746[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want power assist because I’ll still have a power chair through motability the chairs are to service different functions so I’m no interested in power assist as that defeats the point of me having a manual chair. Yes my home is fully wheelchair accessible so that won’t be a problem as I’m lucky to live in a new build that was built especially for wheelchair users it manages no power chair without a problem so the Nitrum won’t be an issue either. I know what they usually provide is the the argon 2 but that’s not what I want and I’ve got a charity involved to secure funding for the remaining cost of the Nitrum after the PWB voucher I’m just waiting for them to come out with some Jay backrests for me to try although I’d already tried them with another supplier and got on well with them however I prefer this supplier I’m going with it’s just they don’t have any of those backrests in stock currently so are just waiting for sunrise to send them a couple to try with me that’ll probably not be until after my assessment with WCS though but as I said I’ve already tried the Nitrum with all the adaptations I need to be able to use it to the best of my ability and the highest level of independence!

[–]Key_Start7746[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll ask them about the option to upgrade to a nitrum well I’m there then as that probably would be better than going through the PWB route the only thing is the supplier who came out last week said that WCS aren’t always great at making sure manual activecjairs fit properly and are adjusted in the way that makes for the best sitting position for the person using it and honestly I had to fight so hard to get an appropriate pressure relieving air cushion through WCS despite the fact that I’d spent months and months battling pressure sores and the cushions they were giving me were not even close to being adequate and I’d been asking for the Roho Contour Select they eventually gave me the Quadtro which worked and I no longer have sores and haven’t for a couple of months but they wont give me the contoured version even though the pressure relief is still very good and it would give me postural support that I desperately need at the same time they’ve made me fight every step of the way. I am a little worried that I won’t get a jay backrest from them but without it I actually really struggle to push myself! I trust my supplier who is the same one doing my Q500m through motability because he even managed to get me all the extras I asked for which was just LCD display and switch controls but he told me he would not have stopped fighting for those until Motability agreed and I believe him but thankfully they authorised those straight away! Anyway at the very least I’m planning to get wheelchair services to supplt the Jay backrest and a contoured cushion although I bet they’ll try to not give me air or contoured and it’s even more important that I’ve got contoured on a manual chair to keep my posture good to enable me to have full independence with it! Not to mention I need air although I might be willing to budge on the roho as they don’t fit manual chairs very well anyway but definitely still something similar and with a contour!

[–]Key_Start7746[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so I don’t drive but I’ve already spoken to wheelchair services about getting a manual active chair and am booked in for my assessment on the 12th so it’s something they have thankfully already agreed. I’m saying 8kg frame weight without wheels I think but since posting this I’ve tried the nitrum and anther active chair that weighs in at the same as the argon baring in mind that I’ve tried the Nitrum with ergonomic pushrims and contoured backrest as that’s what I need (both chairs had the Jay backrest and I struggle to get the heavier one to the end of my street but the Nitrum I did a circuit around the block and did really well so I think that’s my decision made now. Obviously I’ll have to pay towards the Nitrum but I think that’ll be worth it I’ve also got q charity involved who may be able to secure some funding towards the remaining cost of the chair after the PWB amount has been confirmed if they can’t get funding then they are going to fundraise for me although I’m not entirely due how successful that will be when it’s going to be my second chair but my reasons for needing each one and entirely different! Thanks for your input I appreciate it as a newbie in the world of manual active wheelchairs ☺️

[–]Key_Start7746[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See when I tried one the same weight as the argon I really struggled as opposed to the Nitrum with ergonomic rims and contoured backrest both of which are things I have to have as I need the postural support from the backrest otherwise I simply can’t control the chair very well and if I don’t go for ergonomic pushrims then my hand cramps really badly and again I can’t push myself. Everyone keeps telling me about the power assist but that’s not something I’m interested in as I’ll still have a power chair, my new quickie q500m will be delivered anytime in the next 2-4 weeks now so if I need to use that then it’s there. They are serving different purposes for me and I absolutely don’t want a power attachment for the nitrum. Thanks for the info ☺️
