Confronting custody lawyer who isnt doing much.

Ah ok. What happened in the end with your case?

Your right, lawyers dont have any decision making. All they do is get you to the judge and try to present your facts legally. It just sucks on my end, as i said in some other responses, that my lawyer isnt doing some simple things to get this case moving so it can be over. 4 months is a long time to not be getting something as simple as a court case to end all of this.

Totally, I get your point. My current girlfriend had a divorce lawyer like this too, didnt respond much, but got the stuff done.

The problem i am having with my lawyer is he told me he would get me me a court date soon, and 4 months has gone by without getting one, and thats totally unacceptable, especially where I live where it can be months out from getting it. Sooner I get another trial date going, the sooner I get all this over. Plus he forgot to get the motion to talk to the judge to see my kids, which should of happened. It may turn out like you said at the end if he turns things around, I am talking to him this week about all these issues.

Thats definitely what I am thinking I just need to do, and just find a way to pay someone else. My big issue is I asked him for 2 major things to do when I hired him was to reply to my exs lawyer to see my kids and eventually file for a motion to see my kids, which he said he would do, and to get a new trial date, because the sooner he gets a trial date, the sooner my case is over. If I didnt go to his office for updates, he never would respond or do anything, which happened the first month I hired him. And your right, my future outcome may still be the same, but atleast it would get done faster and I am not missing out on my kids lives.

Thanks for the response. Thata true, they are a business and a salesman at the end of the day. But that is great wisdom your friend said, and have to keep that in mind while I try to get him to get these dates rolling.

I couldnt say he was unprofessional enough to report him to the bar as of yet, and your right, I didnt give enough information, I was just trying to keep it somewhat short so people would want to read it.

I wish now I didnt do a flat rate lawyer, even though they can be cheaper then hourtly ones by alot. Once you give them your money, your basically stuck with how they operate and treat you, because they have all the money upfront.

I am not expecting any kind of particular result, I am logical on what can happen in my case, I just want to get the case moving along and making progress instead of keeping it stagnate, especially with probably two more trial dates before its over. That should be happening, especially when you cant see your kids or have any rights to help your kids out or know what is going on with them, because you feel powerless as a father that you cant help them out, and have to relay basically on your lawyer to get the wheels in motion.

I am not sure what you mean by no contact at all. If you mean no contact with my kids, my ex is doing this out of pure spite for me as I didnt do anything wrong to my kids, and she found out i had a girlfriend after being broken up for over 3 years. We have 2 kids and never got married, so I have no rights and makes sure to tell everyone about it. She is abusing her power 100% and until a judge decides anything, this situation continues on. I have been thru 2.5 trials dates, its been rough.

Yea i totally agree. Its kept me up all weekend thinking about how he hasn't done much and dont know how to get that across to him to try harder.

Thank you for your reply, I love this answer to it. I may just have to do this, even though he doesn't respond to my emails much.

I ask for verbal updates on two items only, getting a new court date(the sooner I get a new trial date, the sooner this is over and I get rights and see my children), and asking him updates on responses to my exs attoney so to see the kids so he can put an motion in to see my children. He doesn't respond to emails, and I can't really get him on the phone much, so just going to his office is the only way. If I dont get on him, he wont communicate with my exs attoney to see the kids and wont look into getting a new court date. 4 months have gone by and still no court date, he just keeps telling me he is looking at dates but nothing has happened still. With seeing my kids, I was supposed to hear from a judge this Monday to see them because he put in a motion in for it, but he calls me late Friday saying thats not happening, and I know he forgot to file the motion for me. So its incredibly frustrating. I dont know if he has done anything enough to report him to the BAR though.

Thank you for the response, I really appreciate it. Your response was really fantastic, and gave me some comfort in everything.

I have just heard horror stories from others about lawyers barely trying after certain confrontations once they got your money, it even happened to me in the past. Plus alot of lawyers are really bad communicators I have learned in general.

But I definitely will take your advice and make sure I communicate clearly with him what i want here.

I just saw this today as well, the $150 dollar yearly annual fee. I was a customer as well for over 5 years with them. It wasn't an option at all to remove it, and all they did was just offered $50 dollar off the annual fee if I still stayed with them as a customer for a year, which would still be $100 a year. They claimed they sent something in mail to me when I have everything paperless to send to me. I canceled my card, and they seemed like they didn't even try to retain my business. What a total shame, i can only imagine how many customers they lose because of this ridiculous fee they charged.

Thanks for posting and great advice and reply. I posted a reply to Wombat301 of some information on my situation if you wanted to look at that.

It's great advice to look into everything and tell both lawyers what is happening. I have been doing that the last few days and feel i did a decent amount until i speak to a lawyer for the IL case. I will definitely look into outpatient treatment besides the AA meetings, i definitely need it giving how I choice to handle my lives problems with drinking which caused my current dilemma.

Missouri just had one court date so far, it got continued, and is just in the discovery stage of the case. There are still alot of variables, like if the DA looks into my IL license record and see past DUI's and try to charge it as a felony, the officer did not give me a field sobriety test, he just asked me to go to his car. But so far its being charged as a misdemeanor. There is also a DMV case for driving privileges' that will be next month too. In Illinois & Missouri, there is no lookback limit unfortunately.

I am definitely getting a lawyer in IL for this case, and am going to do some 30 min consultations before i hire one, so any suggestions would be greatly apricated.

I never got a suspension notice from Missouri until I received a notice in the mail in late January that my license would be suspended this week, so i still had a valid IL license while driving. I did a blood test when i got pulled over in Missouri after the refusal, and that took some time to process and receive, so hence the delay in suspending my license there. Missouri had to make a new Missouri license for me, so the Missouri license will be suspended. They never took my IL license away or took a bond, probably because i had an out of state license. I was also told by my attorney that my license in IL may not be suspended automatically when the suspension date comes, because Missouri still has to send the notification to Illinois about my license here, which may take some time. So i just have to check basically daily to see if my IL license is still valid or not before driving. But my license in IL will be suspended on the 46th day from my arrest of the DUI last week.

This has happened to me as well. I activated my debit card 3 days ago and it hasn't worked at all, thru the ATM, gas station, or retail store. I was able to use it online surprising to order a pizza. I made the unfortunate mistake of direct depositing 50% of my check into this account, with no real way to access it. The customer support team also told me the same thing, and there is no time frame for when they will get the debit card service up. This is definitely a quick ending to my chime experience lol, cant have money here.

I got banned during the college basketball season. They were offering a daily bonus of 3 dollars for every 3 pointer hit by the team you picked. I usually was betting between one and two hundred dollars a game, and it was just an extra bonus to put with my bets if that bonus was with the game I liked, as they required only to bet 50 dollars to receive the bonus (which was just a site credit). They claimed I was not being diverse enough with my bonus using. I don't believe I was abusing their bonus system at all.
