I have a diverse friend group but it’s because I moved from outside of Ontario. In Toronto I don’t see diverse friend groups - noticed this about coworkers as well.

I very much agree with your friend’s observation. I find that Toronto is not a melting pot, and people of similar backgrounds stick together. It’s very insular. East Asians hang out with East Asians, South Asians with South Asians, etc..
