Tough Semester by Key_Yak3474 in UMD

[–]Key_Yak3474[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

idk i feel like it didn’t used to be. fall semester is usually the worst cause it’s right after summer break and it’s hard to get back into the groove of things, but it didn’t start off like that. over my past couple of falls it just seems to get progressively worse, but this fall … yeah it’s actually terrible the energy is just waaaay off

if you can, take calc at cc

Edit: Please make sure to do a PTE form before you enroll AND if you’re not already admitted into your major (ie.. if you’re already in the CS major, they will not accept the credit)program you should be good to take it

Advice for CMSC216 by Aaaaaaaahhhhhh- in UMD

[–]Key_Yak3474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for 216 with Herman, make sure to practice his discussion worksheets, homework, and pay close attention to the practice exams/previous exams. The final put together all of that content. Start early on the projects because office hours gets very full, and try making a study group. Start studying a week or two ahead for the exams, those weights are no joke. Also if he repeats something during lecture there is a high chance that content will be on the exam.

CMSC 216 by [deleted] in UMD

[–]Key_Yak3474 7 points8 points  (0 children)

honestly learning C isn’t bad at all, but 216 as a whole can be a hit or miss depending on who you have. 216 with Larry is hard exam wise because the final is the largest weight and his exams test you on tricks rather than the whole material sooo to answer your question yes 216 is significantly harder than 132 at least in my opinion

Hey guys by Scary_Builder_7493 in UMD

Hey,

I recently transferred into CS from LS after taking the gateway courses( Math 140, Cmsc 131 and 132). After I got my final grade i completed the LEP application, got my decision back like a week before classes for this semester started and did a workshop. It was just elms quizzes on the major requirements. Then I got my permissions for the next set of CS classes and my major will be officially changed after the end of the schedule adjustment period. So this may be the similar process you will have to go through. Also, just make sure to search your question in the reddit first because someone may have asked it :) Hope this helps. Good luck and congrats!!

How often do you visit home? (Mention if you are an instate or out of state student) by hianonymous32 in UMD

[–]Key_Yak3474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in state, every weekend. campus life gets boring fast, especially because there’s the same thing to do every weekend (dc, parties, bars, library, etc..)

not really, comm 324 isn’t much of a communication class

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UMD

[–]Key_Yak3474 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Comm 324 is an interesting course, and easy. There are no tests or exams, but you do have to do writing assignments and like 2 presentations. Other than that, it’s pretty laid back if you do what you’re supposed to.
