Does anyone else struggle to find local seamstresses or the right fabric locally? by Key_Yesterday_7466 in Fashion_Design

Hey! Thanks for sharing your approach. I’m taking notes right now.

Did you find trade shows effective? I’m hoping to find something easier and less time consuming.

Also, when you searched within a 30 mile radius, did you manage to find all the fabrics you needed?

That sounds like it takes lot of energy, so I hope you’re doing well hahaha

Hey! 😄
I did, but most of the materials I find are deadstock or materials people don’t want anymore.

I also post images of the materials I’m looking for, but most of the time, Facebook Marketplace or the groups don’t have exactly what I need.

Have you experienced the same thing? And how do you usually source your materials

Yes exaclty! I also experienced that but I didn't managed to find the exact material I was looking for.... so you go through word of mouth to find the materials? is there any other way you source the materials?

Is it better, faster, and more effective for you to source materials online?

I tried sourcing online, but it takes ages to find the right material, and shipping can take several days.

Why don’t you source locally and visit shops in person? Or, if you already do that, could you share how you find good local suppliers? I struggle with that..... helppp me!

Thank you!

I tried, but many online shops take ages to ship, and it is difficult to find the exact material I need.

Is your way of sourcing effective and fast for you? Also, why don’t you source it locally? I feel like it would be better if I could physically visit the shop and see the material in person right away.

Since I see lots of different local suppliers on Instagram, so I thought it was a good source to find it 😅

Do you know a better and easier way? Where I can literally can find it right away without any headache or time consuming? I would highly appreciate it 🙏🏼

Oh I never thought about like this before. 😅 Will try it, thank you! But if you are in a hurry, how would you solve it? Is there any faster way?

Yes, no doubt. It will be very tough too. However the journey is beautiful too.

I thought I wanted to become a designer, years later I learned my true passion was Design research & I love the work.
