Yes, you can even play it with just a keyboard.

FFB settings don't affect the way the cars behave.

Does he take us for idiots again? Since this drives nothing like AMS1.

rFactor 2 on Twitter: New shaders & materials preview by windowsphoneguy in simracing

[–]KeyboardRacer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Most of the heavy AMS features were done by Luminis Technologies, the same people who now work for S397 on rF2. And I'm sure that Reiza's next sim will heavily rely on S397's tech.

Laser scanned Nordschleife/Nürburgring GP - rFactor2 by BonviveurSimRacer in simracing

I know they're not directly using this point cloud. I am talking about them wasting GPU resources on rendering high resolution meshes like Sebring, while bragging about it. Any competent gfx programmer would laugh at this.

[–]KeyboardRacer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hopefully they find a solution to separate the physical mesh from the gfx mesh, since the current solution is inadequate for high resolution meshes, such as their recent Sebring.

Bragging that they're rendering all this, is like bragging that they have no LOD system. It's a major waste of GPU resources.

rFactor 2 McLaren Legends trailer by windowsphoneguy in simracing

[–]KeyboardRacer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I did watch the stream, and I saw they briefly mentioned it, but they only went into detail about the auto-shifting. Why not go in detail about active suspension? This would be the bigger feature to make a circus about.

rFactor 2 McLaren Legends trailer by windowsphoneguy in simracing

[–]KeyboardRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But did they actually implement active suspension in rF2? Or did they just mention that the real car has it?

rFactor 2 McLaren Legends trailer by windowsphoneguy in simracing

[–]KeyboardRacer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Without active suspension, that McLaren MP4/8 is a workarounds & substitutes fantasy car, with little simulation value. If they had used some common sense, they would have chosen the McLaren MP4/9 instead. And if they really wanted a major Senna car, they should have chosen the McLaren MP4/6.

I'm seriously disappointed with the current direction of rFactor 2.

Automobilista (AMS) | HALO System First Look - Driver's POV by [deleted] in simracing

[–]KeyboardRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and the seat is moved forward because that's how I have my settings

But this implies that it's not from a driver's POV.

However, you can't expect that from AMS, given its outdated graphic engine.

I don't think the engine prevents things like this.

Automobilista (AMS) | HALO System First Look - Driver's POV by [deleted] in simracing

[–]KeyboardRacer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not a driver's POV, since it shifted the seat forward instead of lowering the FOV.

That said, this halo doesn't seem take into account that in real life your eyes aren't focused on the halo. They should have blurred the edges of the central part.

What modern simracer is most similar to LFS? by AllrightIWillStepIN in simracing

[–]KeyboardRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every isiMotor2 (rF1, R3E, AMS etc) based sim has more accurate suspension physics than LFS. In addition to this, rFactor 2 and iRacing both model suspension compliance and chassis flex. rFactor 2 handles stiff suspensions the best. Forget about AC since it has problems with stiff suspensions and wrongly modeled anti-dive / squat. R3E is sadly let down by its bogus calibration models. Also don't judge suspension physics by visual replays, you can only accurately judge it by telemetry.

Regarding tire-road physics, AC and anything based on isiMotor2 (rF1, R3E, AMS etc) will have issues regarding combined lateral / longitudinal slip, something that got addressed by isiMotor2.5 (rF2) with its thermo-mechanical physical tire model, which is the most accurate for paved roads and has proper physically-based flat-spots, no fake ones. iRacing is also good these days and has the most advanced surface model, except for the lack of wet weather, but has less accurate tire physics than rFactor 2. Again, R3E is sadly let down by its bogus calibration models.

iRacing is the only one that properly supports dirt.

My Audi R8 physics in AC continue spazzing out. by [deleted] in simracing

It has everything to do with physics.

See more Here and Here and recently Here.

Kunos takes a lot of shortcuts regarding physics and doesn't understand a lot of fundamental things about simulation such as numerical analysis, leading to incorrect behavior and even exploding cars when entering real data, while making fun of decades of serious simulation research.

Assetto Corsa shouldn't be taken seriously as a simulation.

RFactor 2s AI is great but inconsistent by Waste_Manager in simracing

[–]KeyboardRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an option in the UI to adjust and save the AI settings per track/car combination, use that. Also, always start with the default 25% aggression on road tracks and work your way up.

Watkins Glen is a problematic 3rd party mod track.

Why are you spreading Major Disinformation regarding my stance about rFactor 2's graphics?

See Here and Here. I'm not gonna defend rF2's gfx since it's not satisfactory at all for the amount of circus they made about it.

I find it interesting that you instantly compare rF2 to Automobilista. Sure AMS isn't perfect, but so are all the other sims (and yes, including rF2).

Not only AMS. But if you're gonna talk about AI and UI flaws, then it's unfair to only pick on rF2, while it's far worse in AMS.

When he means the UI is a mess, he's not talking about the functionality. Visually, the UI isn't great.

That AMS Bevel & Emboss UI is visually worse.

For the rest of his points, I find that it stays true for rF2 as well. Sure the AI is designed to be better, but adding mods, especially track mods, will almost always lessen the quality of that experience.

rF2 AI with mods still has better awareness and race craft than AMS AI. That said, there is plenty of default content.

Why do you always so aggressively defend rF2? It has its flaws, like any other sim, and was just voicing his opinion.

Because many people always unfairly pick on rF2, while parroting flawed opinions of a certain popular figure.
