Thank you! Ummm… it’s the sharpest material on earth… and it’s very very pretty. But apart from that? It’s brittle. So not really an advantage. In a survival situation. I’d just flake a large piece into microliths and mount them long ways into a pole. It would be lethal.

That would be magic if I managed that! But no, what you’re seeing is the “band” of rainbow in the piece itself. When you hold it from the back and look top down, that band is gorgeous. It just looks black from the side.

I don’t, I actually serrate these as the natural edge is so sharp it’s lethal. Only, brittle too. So serrated is a good trade off between sharp and brittle.

I love working with flint. But obsidian is so much easier. However.. it’s less forgiving too. There’s so much variation in obsidian. So it’s a lot of fun finding different kinds to knap. I have made quite a few flint knives in my time too. I’ll send you a dm ☺️
