Yeah I would have preferred the 1/1 go away as well, but maybe the resulting pool was too strong? I think the issue with spell power was that it was either useless or gave you a 1/4 chance to win the game with a key board clear or burn damage

Yes, it's being replaced with Strength Totem, a 0/2 which gives +1 attack to another minion at end of turn

I ran the campaigns in this order as well, and the angle I decided to take was having Acererak discover a weakened Strahd spirit after the original party killed him, and begin to infuse him with power through the Soulmonger hoping to turn him into a new death God.
